Top four finish the best Arsenal can hope for, says Redknapp

|

Arsene WengerSo far in this summer transfer window Arsene Wenger has only managed to sign one player, a France Under-21 international who goes by the name of Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre on a free, and has shifted a lot of deadwood, which has taken me aback a little.

Arsenal continue to pursuit Luis Suarez and have newly targeted Bayern Munich’s Luiz Gustavo as another potential recruit this summer.

However, if the Frenchman fails to land either of the two abovementioned names, or any other player for that matter, he insists his side are strong enough to challenge for the Premier League title this season. I don’t think so, and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp also believes the same.

The former Liverpool midfielder says there is still plenty of time for The Gunners to seal some deals but insists the north London club cannot win the Premier League with their current squad and the Suarez’s deal looks dead in the water:

‘Where are the signings the Arsenal board promised?

‘Whoever told them they could get Luis Suarez for £40million plus £1 appears to have got their information wrong, because that’s not how Liverpool see it. That deal seems dead.

‘There is still time for Arsenal to add to their squad, but they must feel embarrassed at the lack of impact on the market so far.

‘Arsene Wenger says he can still win the league with the players he has. I say he can’t.’

Redknapp went on to say that Wenger can lead his side to a top four finish though, but has questioned whether this will be good enough for the club and Arsenal faithful:

‘But that doesn’t mean they won’t still wriggle into fourth place again, because he has a habit of doing that. Is that good enough?’

I don’t’ know where we are at with the move for Suarez. Like Jamie says, it looks like this won’t be happening. If it does, then it will be a last minute thing.

As for our current squad winning the Premier League? I can’t see this happening. We have a good group of players at the club but they struggled to clinch a top four finish last season, and unless Wenger bolsters the side in the upcoming weeks we will be doing the same this season which won’t be good enough in my opinion.

The title for the foreseeable future will be a spending race between City and Chelsea. Man U probably have 3rd wrapped up already but with Moyes you never know. 4th is a three way race between Spuds, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

4th spot is between arsenal & spurs. Liverpool are trying to use “history” to get 4th place but the evidence reflects a different story.

Liverpool aren’t even rivals to spurs talk less arsenal. 10 years of league position don’t lie.

8 years of no trophys don’t lie either !

Ridiculous statement from a bitter Gooner. It’s quite hilarious to see fans of a club that has had their own problems with holding onto key players expect Liverpool to roll over and sell on the cheap. Especially when most Arsenal fans have been chiding Suarez since the last World Cup.

Twitchy putting his two cents in again. He needs to concentrate on the league he is actually coaching in!

I cannot stand him and most other ex-Liverpool based pundits.

  • Andy Mack says:

His ‘track record’ as a pundit is really really really poor.
His comment has given me hope that we could actually win the premiership this year.
Before he said this I was hopeing for a top three place!

Lol looks like Redknapp is still taking bungs. Harry only ever looked good because he was allowed to waste money at Pompey. The won the FA cup, but he has demolished the club, he got Southampton relegated and lost his job at spurs by flirting with the FA. This guy is my vote for the shadiest man in football.

    • T says:

Surely George Graham and El Tel are the shadiest managers in English football? Arsenal fans do baffle me as they defend in numbers when someone suggests they can’t win the league without signings then turn round and attack the club/manager for not buying signings. I don’t think they know what they think? Surely pressure like this (and it’s obvious common sense too) is a good thing for Arsenal? History shows they don’t really have a chance of a trophy without big money purchases.

Also confused why they criticize other clubs for spending money (City/Chelsea) then complain if they aren’t spending money like city and Chelsea. They only difference between them is City and Chelsea are spending their cash, while Arsenal fans want them to spend the banks money before they clear off all their debt.

Don’t call me Shirley! 😀 and in terms of damage I think he takes the biscuit. Perhaps there are different views in different parts of the country XD

If history is a good indication, Arsenal perform better in one year and worse in the other at least in points… for I forget how long.

Since the team were 3rd the year before and 4th this year, they will at least get 3rd this year. That is, if history proves anything.

Trust me, if you believe in this stuff, then this is one of the very few trends you must believe.

On the other hand, I heard no one talking about this before. That might mean that its really stupid to talk about such thing as teams change from year to year and so do the opponents…

Championship manager and sell quotes is all RentaGob Redknapp can hope for

  • Ron says:

What will arsenal have to offer Louis when you don’t qualify! You can’t hold on to any of your players as it is,I don’t need to list them wait till jack has his head turned, your a selling club lets face it. Without injure prone jack there isn’t a single player who get a shirt with the reds, trophy less and hoping! You have some idea your a club who players would kill to sign for don’t think so! The best you can hope for is 4-8th

    • Jamie says:

Obviously you have not heard of Santi or Koscielny or Theo or Arteta. Just face it l’pool are a club riding on history with a completely daft manager and a clueless and classless owner. Within a few years you lot will be a mid-table team……… Oh wait……… you are already.
