Reports over the weekend suggested Arsenal have agreed to sign Bernard from Atletico Mineiro, with the young Brazilian believed to be flying over to London on Friday to have his medical.
However, the 20-year-old Brazilian midfielder has refused to confirm what has been reported is true, admitting he does not know where his future lies:
‘I don’t want to talk about this in a week as important as this one.
‘I want to talk about the game and I don’t want to be impolite or ignore it in any way.
‘I don’t know what will happen after the game. My future at Atletico Mineiro will be in the board’s hands from Thursday onwards.’
Not many of the Arsenal faithful will know who Bernard actually is, myself included. All I know is that he is a 5’4’’, highly-rated youngster in his country, is a left-sided winger, and that he has made 97 appearances for Atletico Mineiro, finding the net 21 times, since 2011.
Although he has great potential, do we really want to fork out a huge sum of cash for an unproven starlet only to have him sent out on loan? Even if he was brought in, would he get ahead of what we currently have at our disposal?
I honestly think other areas of the team need to be addressed. We have many wingers at the club already.

This is a stupid report. If our great team were to secure this player, there is no way he would be sent out on loan. He is a vast improvement, especially on the left hand side of midfield, of what we already have.

Theo is right wing. Caz and Ox play their natural game thro the middle. Podoldki does not have the skill that this player has by some distance, although he has good finishing skills. So you are another one of those people that thinks he knows football are you. You too have a lot to learn.

Arsenal need quality players like Bernard who are on the the verge of becoming world class super stars. He was rated with in the top 5 players in brazil, so names like neymar, ronaldiniho, pauliniho ect you get my point! And as for wingers I can name one natural winger in the arsenal team and he isn’t to good(gervinho) as for chamberland he is a central mid, Walcott is a striker so is podolski is a striker so where are all these wingers! I’m sorry but this report is very uninformed. Bernard has 5 senior caps for Brazil and was great in the Confed Cup. Since Gervinho is rumoured to be heading to Roma it makes perfect sense for us to buy a new winger.
i have watched his vedeo…dont remember seeing any player lyk him..he is an improved version of Hleb, quick, skillful, vision, excellent cross and above all eye for goal…Wenger go get him plz…

Allow Bernard. Funny thing about some arsenal fans is that we complain when we sign youngsters. Now that we are interested in this small unproven fella all you arsenal fans commenting on this blog want wenger to sign him. Do u want experienced players or youngsters? Make up your damn mind. Plus we already have young wingers waiting in the wings like gnarby etc. I hear we are willimg to pay 21 mil for Bernard – why not add an extra 2 mil and buy fellaini instead! let me ask, how old was juan mata when he played for spain in the 2011 u-20 world? Did we not all weep when he joined in preference to our arsenal? Did bernad not play for brazil in the last fifa confederation cup which brazil won, thrashing spain? Is bernard not 20 yrs now and has he not been described as a highly talented youngster? What would be song of bloggers like you if spurs or any other arsenal rival would beat arsenal to bernards signature? I would love to see us sign Bernard. At the age of 20 he already looks special and I believe he’ll become world class. The brazillians absolutely love him which tells u enough of the sort of player he is. He’s good enough to go straight into our team for sure.
