GonalonsArsenal’s chances of landing reported target Maxime Gonalons from Lyon this summer have been boosted, with the French midfielder’s future at the Ligue 1 club uncertain.

Lyon are eager to keep hold of their captain, so much so that they issued a ‘hands-off’ warning to interested clubs.

However, the 24-year-old recently hinted that his immediate future may lie elsewhere, if the right offer comes along.

Speaking about the speculation surrounding his future, Gonalons was quoted in the Daily Star saying:

‘I’ve seen it from afar, followed it on the internet.

‘There are lots of rumours, even if certain things are true.

‘Playing for a club like Lyon, I know that I am in the public eye, that other big clubs watch us.

‘I know the club have confidence in me and that is important.

‘I am concentrating only on OL – but in football anything can happen very quickly.’

Although Gonalons still has three-years left to run on his existing deal at Lyon, the player’s latest comments will no doubt give Arsene Wenger some hope of attaining his signature this summer.

And while he is somewhat indispensable to the French club, it is believed if a £15 million bid is tabled then they may consider selling their prized asset.

Gonalons was ever-present for Lyon last season, making 42 appearances in all competitions and bagging four goals along the way.
