Should Wenger rekindle his interest in this French midfielder?

|

Yoann GourcuffLong-term Arsenal target Yoann Gourcuff is open to a summer move away from Lyon this summer, which may put Arsene Wenger on red alert.

The 26-year-old has been on Wenger’s radar for sometime now and hasn’t endured the best of times recently at Lyon due to injuries.

The France international made just 22 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side this season, netting four goals and creating three. But he has become a shadow of what he was when he was part of Bordeaux’s Ligue 1 winning side in the 2008/09 campaign.

His performances for Bordeaux impressed Lyon who signed him for £19 million in 2010 but has failed to live up to his hefty price-tag since his move to Stade de Garland.

But after enduring an injury-plagued season with Lyon, the attacking midfielder will consider his options this summer.

He told Ouest France:

‘If clubs are interested and interesting, I don’t close the door to anything at all.

‘I have a certain idea of football, a philosophy on how to play, I know in which conditions I can flourish and in which I can’t.

‘That’s what counts most even if the economic aspect also comes into the equation.’

Wenger is known to be a keen admirer of Gourcuff and admitted his interest in the Frenchman.

However, Lyon did not want to part ways with the creative midfielder during January, but Wenger may well be tempted to go back in for Gourcuff following the player’s latest comments.

Hell no!! Whhere are we going to play him? He’s a poor man’s Arteta. The EPL is too fast and too physical for him.
