Gonzalo HiguainGonzalo Higuain’s brother and agent Nicholas recently admitted that the Real Madrid striker is ‘close’ to sealing a £22 million summer move to Arsenal.

This is great to hear. Many Arsenal fans rate the 25-year-old highly and are hoping to see him at The Emirates next season. Hopefully, firing us to silverware.

Lee Dixon reckons Higuain would be an excellent signing for his former club, should they pull it off.

The BBC pundit believes the Real striker will score goals and create chances, and I am inclined to agree with him.

However, there are some people out there that beg to differ, like Tony Adams.

The former Arsenal captain believes the club should stay clear of ‘cast-offs’, players that are not wanted by the best teams, and Higuain is, according to Adams, one of these players.

Higuain has been very consistent in front of goal for Real Madrid since signing for them back in 2007 from River Plate.

Despite racking up 48 appearances in all competitions for Real last season (30 as a starter), the Argentine was unable to attain a regular place in the starting line-up and pretty much played second fiddle to Karim Benzema.

Higuain managed to find the net 18 times and assisted eigthts – not a bad return taking into account he wasn’t first-choice under then Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

We could well do with a prolific striker coming in this summer, and I honestly believe Higuain is one of them, and would fit the bill at Arsenal.

However, others may see him as a waste of money and a chance not worth taking, like Adams.

So what do you guys reckon?

Do you agree with Dixon? That Higuain would be a great signing for the club and will score many goals for us next season?

Or are you inclined to agree with Adams? That we should stay away from rejects and ‘cast-offs’?

  • Arseniel says:

Even if he doesn’t prove to be great or we don’t get him, he’s already been of considerable value to arsenal just being of the calibre that we’re now looking at.

It is worrying that there doesn’t appear to be be any further reason why he hasn’t signed. So may e he ain’t coming. Lets all cross our fingers

    We don’t need cesar!!

If we are going to sign a keeper he has to be better than what we have. Cesar is NOT

The way arsenal are doing in transfer market they don’t deserve that top four place atoll. How can a small team in premiership are buying players for 18m why big team like arsenal are strogue to buy 10m players ? This is nonsense. Mr wenger is earning urge money but can not buy players with good money that is crazy

  • Emeka says:

I think he’ll be a great signing for us. The fact he was dropped by the coach, does not make him a bad player. What can we say of casillas that was benched as well?

  • Arseshaving says:

If Arsenal fail to land Higuain or a similar prestige player with the financial resources we reportedly have then I expect Wenger to be gone before the end of the summer. Talk of new contracts and even renewals of season tickets should be put on hold until we start seeing results in the transfer market – so far it has been absolutely underwhelming. But that sums Wenger up – not an ounce of ambition in that washed up has been…

  • Arseshaving says:

Lets put in lots of “bids” for players – not sign anyone but at the the end of the tranfer window say “but at least you can see we tried” – no money, no ambition and no chance..

I believe he will make a good player in arsenal considering the type of game arsenal plays. Mounriho prefers benzema based on his game plan which differs from wenger’s game plan.

  • Buchimax says:

Yes he’ll be a great signing for team. Even if he fails to deliver, just think of the morale n boost news of his signing would be to the other players? Indeed he is a world class player.

  • George says:

So Dennis Berqkamp was a waste of time buying because he wasn’t a success at his old club. I wish players would just stick to what they know Playing)
