‘I think he’d be a good signing, but is he at his very best now?’

|

Wayne RooneyFormer Gunner Stewart Robson believes Wayne Rooney would be a good signing for Arsenal, but thinks he will cost the north London club too much.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed last week that the 27-year-old has asked to leave Manchester United and has been linked with a move to The Gunners this summer.

While many would like to see Rooney at Arsenal next season, Robson reckons Arsene Wenger could run the risk of upsetting other players at the club if he were to sign the England international:

‘I think he obviously doesn’t want to be at Manchester United.

‘But Arsenal don’t really want to be buying a player that could be on the wane.

‘The problem is everyone at Arsenal wants to play in the hole behind the striker and they’ve done that for years.

‘They buy players that play behind the main striker and then they play them out in wide areas and the players get unhappy because they’re not playing in the position they want to play. If Wayne Rooney plays there then it will upset other players.’

Robson went on to say that although Rooney would be a good signing for Arsenal, he questions whether the United forward is at his very best now and if his former club would pay a fortune for him:

I think he’d be a good signing, but is he at his very best now? That’s the question.

‘And will Arsenal have to pay an absolute fortune? You know Arsenal don’t pay fortunes for players.’

Some good points raised by Robson. We could easily afford to buy Rooney as Wenger will have a lot of cash to spend this summer. However, the stumbling block in this potential deal happening is the player’s wages.

Its not a matter of can Arsenal give him what he wants, it’s will they.

The Gunners are in a superb financial position to give their stars or potential arrivals what they want but they are unwilling to break or even tweak the wage structure at the club.

Rooney (as much as I despise him), would be a good signing for ANY club.
Utd are not desperate to sell, and we wouldn’t pay more than 20 million for him.
250k a week? Never in a million years would we pay anywhere near that for him. Messi, sure, Rooney? No chance!

    good signs him

He’s not the player he was, still a match winner no doubt. But someone will offer Utd silly money for him. There are a lot of clubs in Europe now owned by Arabs and Russians.

Rooney 2 arsenal will never ever happen. U knw how much is hated over there. No chance

The main thing is Rooney would never want to go to Arsenal. What reasons could he have for wanting to leave? Everyone knows he will get both more money and more trophies at united so if he wants to leave for either of them arsenal isnt the place. Maybe he wants to further himself as a football and to do that he’d have to go abroad

It’s because Rooney and Moyes have bad blood between them. With Moyes headed to ManU next season, Rooney wants out. Even if ManU have many trophies, he wouldn’t want to be in a club that treated him respect and in the course of a few years, tossed him aside for the likes of Chicharito, Welbeck, and van Persie.

Well there must be some weight behind this rumour because everyone is taling about it. Gooners better get used to this story cos it ain;t going away. If anything it’s gaining momentum. The thing is if Wayne is obviousley upset with Untied so what’s the best way to get one over on his former employers? Move to the club that them his replacement? RVP has took his place and he hates it. If he moved to Arsenal and won the league that’d be a massive two fingers up at ManU(re)…..

Rooney will NEVER be in an Arsenal Shirt that’s for sure!
