Why our lack of patience is destroying our players

|

Arsene WengerArsenal have been unbelievably inconsistent in the past six or seven seasons, and as a result, the club has experienced the longest period without a trophy football in their Premier League history. This trophy drought stretches back to 2005 when Arsenal triumphed over then arch-rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Since then, we have only managed to come close to winning something, but have fallen short. We have reached two League Cup finals and lost to Chelsea and Birmingham, as well as the Champions League final in 2006, losing to Barcelona. Of course, this has been attributed to a number of reasons, one of which I believe is down to the impatience and negativity of Arsenal fans.

It is true that all Arsenal fans, myself included, are more than desperate to win silverware. But in spite of such desperation, we need to give the players that Arsene Wenger brings in to the club time to gel. It is common knowledge that the Premier League is the most difficult league in the world, because of the speed at which the football is played. The Premier League is by far the most physically demanding out of the top five European leagues.

This brings me the bug that has eaten into myriads of Arsenal fans. On paper, Arsenal has one of the finest squads in the league, in terms of talent. For me, we have a more talented squad than Manchester United, but look how separated we are in the table! A whopping 24 points, yet none of their midfield players can get a starting place in our team. I attribute this among other reasons to the trust the United fans put in their players. You can never hear United fans boo or hurl insults towards their players, yet at The Emirates, this is starting to be the norm! Emmanuel Adebayor was abused by his own fans when he failed to replicate the season in which he scored 30 goals in 48 games. This made him disillusioned, felt unwanted and finally left for Man City. We destroyed him! Emmanuel Eboue was practically abused by Arsenal supporters against Wigan at The Emirates for putting a string of passes wayward, despite the fans being well aware that that was his first game after a long-term injury, we made him lose any confidence he had left, and eventually lost him!

Absolutely and totally agree. The instant success/ I want a trophy brigade should just bugger off to Chelski in my view. Supporters support!

No Arsenal player would get in the Man U starting eleven. Wilshire is class but could only play next to Carrick if he dropped deeper, but he wouldn’t get in the AM role behind the forward ahead of Rooney or Kagawa.

This is only debatable point, every other position on the pitch you would have the United player, in fact nearly every single one of United’s back up players would get in the Arsenal team. If you don’t see this then either you massively underrate the Man U players or you massively overrate the Arsenal players and its no wonder your confused to the point you abuse your own team.

This is the weakest Arsenal team I can remember for a long time.

I think it’s generally accepted now that Wilshere is better than Cleverly, who seems to play frequently and I think he’s a much more similar type of player to Jack than Kagawa is. I know you won’t agree but in my view Koscielny is a brilliant defender who would absolutely get into the Utd starting 11, and would actually be perfect to have alongside a Vidic-type player. Also Cazorla. It may just be to do with it being the first season but he’s been miles better than Kagawa overall, and I’ve little doubt he’d get into the Utd side over Nani or Young.
I will generally agree with you that the author of this article does go a bit over the top saying that Arsenal’s midfield is miles better than United’s. There’s at least one spot in the Arsenal midfield alone which hasn’t even been truly claimed due to injuries and inconsistent players. I think there have been times in the recent past when Arsenal seriously did have a better team on paper than United, but still couldn’t do as well in the league (when we had Nasri, Fabregas and RVP for example) – certainly not this year, though.

I think only Kos6 Jack Carzola and maybe Podolski might challenge fo a place in the united 11 I’d maybe add Gibbo to the list but generally they hve a better squad and play as a team unlike us we hv players who dnt do any defensive duties

    • ken lo says:

So Fergie didnt want the Ox, Walcott and Ramsey then?
So… either Fergie is a bad manager for wanting players who couldn’t get in his team… OR… Arsene simply beat him in the transfer market.
Like to know your answer to this Knoble!!!

  • g clarke says:

M u lack of midfield was shown against chel how m u have done so well in the league with the squad they have is hard to understand chel and m c have better and arsenal will be next season maybe home ref pref helped

  • ken lo says:

Agree 100% with the point you are making.
Wish you hadn’t compared our players to Manures though, because this gives the moaners/knockers a way to deflect your argument.
I do not care what other players can or cant do, just what the potential of our players are.
The latest player to suffer this abuse is Ramsey, but he is now starting to show his class.
Same with Giroud and, dare I say, Fabianski?
All these so called experts who knock Arsene should be ashamed of themselves…remember when Ebioue left they got their wish. Then they then questioned why Arsene let him go!!!!
What other club has morons like these as supporters???

  • Mik says:

    I agree.

Arsenal fans are putting an immense amount of pressure on players. They forgot that not all players are instantly successful. As soon as a player has a bad season he is cast off as not good enough for Arsenal and made into a laughing stock.

Arsenal has some of the worst fans in the PL.

  • Ry says:

Wenger needs to start protecting his players everyone Can see when a player is not having a bad game, take them off

    • ivorstephens says:

Wenger has always protected his players, usually to his own detriment.Very seldom will you hear an ex arsenal player(except for merson and wright) criticise him. These highly paid players need to man up and take responsibility for what happens on the field of play and stop hiding behind the manager and whatever

  • atid says:

Our attacking 4 walcott cazorla podolski and giroud in their first full season together have amassed 60 goals between them and with 8 matches left to play who is to say they won’t break the 70 goal mark. I wonder how many other teams attacking 4 can boast that many? Our big problem this season has been the understanding of the zonal marking system and stability in the defensive side of the team. Our keepers have not been commanding enough. all of the “back 7” have suffered from so many injuries to themselves or the positions around them. Who is the strongest pairing in the holding midfield? With 8 games to go that is still open to debate. Until 3 matches ago no one knew who our bet centre back pairing was and I would say if u asked the fans to choose who they would have as right back u would get a 50/50 response with ditto for left back. I reckon if u asked a hundred supporters who is the best keeper at the club u would get at least 3 different answers. Yet if u asked people to name the best attacking 4 I think 90% would say! Walcott cazorla podolski as the attacking midfielders behind giroud.

  • Oguntuase Amos says:

Actually we have so many thugs, hooligans, morons, imbeciles, sadists and psychopaths as supporters more than any other club in the EPL. Unfortunately they are educated illiterates who are bereft of logical reasonings.

  • Ian Selley says:

Yeah we should give them more time to gel or we could face the truth, that we have become a cash machine for an asset stripping Yank who has made is so uncompetitive that we now start each season, knowing 4th place is the best we can hope for
