My Arsenal player ratings from tonight’s game against Everton

|

Olivier GiroudHere are my Arsenal player ratings from tonight’s 0-0 draw with Everton (feel free to argue or agree with me):

Wojciech Szczesny – Back in the team because Lukasz Fabianski was sidelined through injury. Commanded his box well and positioning was pretty much spot on throughout. Kept a clean sheet. 7/10

Bacary Sagna – Was defensively brilliant and full of energy. Worked hard for the team but his delivery into the box was poor as ever. 6/10

Per Mertesacker – Handled the threat of Victor Anichebe well enough and was composed on the ball. Pretty much won everything in the air tonight. 7/10

Laurent Koscielny – The Frenchman’s positioning was superb and in general was mistake-free tonight. Enthusiastic throughout and proved why he is currently our best centre-back in our squad. 7.5/10

Kieran Gibbs – Had a mixed night, done well going forward but was a bit suspect when defending. Looked more livelier when Podolski came on, making overlaps and trying to create something from the wide position. 5/10

Mikel Arteta – Fought hard, was composed on the ball and kept things neat and tidy in midfield. Another good performance from the Spaniard. 7/10

Aaron Ramsey – Was everywhere tonight! Was full of energy and always wanted the ball which was pleasing to see. Didn’t do anything complicated and always looked to drive the team forward. Man of the Match. 8/10

Jack Wilshere – Was half a yard off the pace, misplaced a few passes and lost possession unnecessarily in midfield when he could have released it to one of his team-mate. Complained a lot rather than getting on with the game. Looks unfit. Was taken off in the 68th. 4/10

Theo Walcott – Was very, very quite tonight. Was pretty much anonymous in the first-half but managed to get behind Leighton Baines in the second 45. Final touch was lacking and never really threatened the Everton back-line with his pace. Disappointing. 3/10

Santi Cazorla – The little Spaniard once again showcased his technical ability and passing range but was unable to find that killer pass tonight. Did well, but seen him perform a whole lot better. 6/10

Olivier Giroud – Done well in the aerial duels, but was poor in front of goal. Missed a sitter in the first-half and should have really scored in the second from close range but blazed the ball over the bar. Left his shooting boots at home. 5/10

SUBS:

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Came on for Wilshere with 30 minutes left to play and was lively. Shifted the ball around well and wasn’t afraid to push forward and have a go at Everton’s defence. Deserves to start Arsenal’s next game. 6/10

Lukas Podolski – Replaced Theo in the 68th minute. Got forward well and tried to deliver balls into the box but to no prevail. 5/10

Nacho Monreal – Came on for Gibbs in the 90th minute and had a few touches of the ball. Booked. N/A

Ramsey 8 and Cazorla 6? What match were u watching? And Giroud 5? So if that was a test you think that donkey belongs to the pass class?

    • Chris says:

Ramsey was our best player.carzola only came into the game when he played in the middle as for giroud once again his finishing was poor.he may have scored 17 this season but has missed sitters in many big games and if we had another quality striker wouldnt be starting, hes a gd team player bur poor finisher

Dont be a Ramsey basher mate, at the moment he is brilliant

      • AussieGooner says:

I’ve been a Ramsey basher plenty of times myself this season and I acknowledge his fight and continual improvement, but he and a lot of others in the team need to find some end product. Seems the only way we can score is from passes deep within the box or from the goal line. Manure is a must win for us if we are to finish 4th or higher.

  • True gunner says:

Love or hate Gervinho he deserve the start over Walcott, walcott offer nothing to the team,Podolski, Chamberlain and Rosicky offer much more to the team.
If Wilshere is out of form leave him on the bench til he regain his form.

You correct on that one !

    • Adams says:

Ramsey hz bn great so far. He’s 1of the most fit players currently in EPL…virtually, see him ev’rywhr.I stil c,nt undastnd Y AW is benching poldi,he is the bst shooter wit gud accuracy in the team..giroud is lazy, tired & c,nt perform against top teams…if Welshere isn,t fit, Y c,nt him b bench? Quit experimnting wif him b4 his injury excalates….Y c,nt we start matches wif Rosciky,Poldi,OX,…bliv it or nt,walcolt isn,t fit…no matter hw bad u see gervinho he’s better than walcolt, he can dribbles defnderz 1 & 1…and can mk out space jst he’s shy in goal…play, poldi centre fwrd AW!

  • TAR says:

Giroud is the same player as Demba ba…so, who is more consistent…has to be the frenchman with the first half sitter that was missed…

  • Pablobrown says:

Arteta 7? I thought he was shite, 5 tops

  • xlo says:

Ramsey’s 8 is well deserved. He really was our best player tonight. He was link-up and forward play was good, he was constantly and tirelessly pressing opponents, even his tackling was surprisingly good. One has to be blind to fail to see that.
Cazorla wasn’t bad, though. And I thought Wilshere, while obviously not fully fit, put in a decent shift – just not up to his usual standards.

Team is trying but it seems they lack urgency when required. I wish that sometimes the players would just do the simple basic things like just pass instead of over dribbling, play the way they are facing, play early and away from pressure it might make the game easier for them and cause less turn overs and unneccessary mistakes.Giroud good in air, a good target man, can hold up play, physical presence when he wants to be one also clumsy, spends more time on his ass than on his feet, gives up too easy and lazy at times ,always whining instead of trying to win the ball back when in a good position to do so,tries too much on the ball, fruatrating to watch, doesnt anticipate and read simple plays too well technically not good enough for Arsenal.Carzola technically brilliant needs to keep it simple sometimes.Wilshire brilliant thinks well, out of form, needs to pass earlier sometimes.Full backs good over lapping need to take up lessons in crossing balls into the box.Walcott offers speed, no footballing brain seems to have lost his way since signing new contract.Poldolski can shoot technically good doesnt track back and help to defend shows laziness like ALL the players he needs to come to ball when ball is being played to them and not allow opposition to move to the ball first. One would think a professional footballer should know basics.

when wilshere messes up he is unfit but if it is giroud every1 wants to stab him…GET BEHIND THE TEAM FELLAS

wenger is too into jack w. unfortunately for javc wenger is infatuated with him,he is clearly not ready to start, yet the manger starts him. that is not his fault, its similar to when szczesney, bendtner, chamakh and squillaci were clearly struggling, the manager still picked thenm doing them no favours. a bit like diaby, rosicky, gibbs and even ramsey, they were struggling from long term injuries, yet sdtill he brought them back too early and in ramseys case played him out of position. But now ramsey is fit, he is playing in his correct position and suprise suprise, he has been awesome…our motm for the last 2 matches!
please mr wenger learn from your mistakes….plat players when they are fit and play players in their position, it is the way forward…its like garlic and bread and cheese and cake, it might not sound right but it is fucking good!!

  • High Berry says:

I was following this game on the Squawka.com web site. They rate players on their contribution over 90 mins. They also have Ramsey as the best Arsenal player. Coleman was MotM tho.
Shame we couldn’t sneak another win but credit to Everton, they made it tough. Draw is ok though, just need to push on…

  • adiiii83 says:

Cmon really….The only thing bad in today’s game was Wenger’s starting line up. Jack and Theo should never have started. Gervinho had a nice liitle run of form, and then has a bad game V Norwich(which by the way, most of the team sucked), and he gets dropped for an unfit Theo. Jack lacked sharpness against Norwich and looked unfit, so why do you start him in such a big game? To say Giroud missed a sitter, is ridiculous. He barely got to that cross from Ramsey and Howard closed it down really well. The 2nd chance only came by because of some good skill by him in the first place to give him self a yard on Jagielka. And even then, the angle was tight. He looked very lively today, and had anyone else apart from Wilshere and Theo started, he would’ve scored.

Good points man. Some people just love to adjudge players as not good enough.first ramsey then gervinho now giroud. Support the team guys!
