‘I’ve got Arsenal finishing in third place’

|

Arsene WengerFormer Arsenal winger Perry Groves reckons Arsenal will finish in the top four this season, with Chelsea missing out.

The Gunners currently sit third in the Premier League table, two points ahead of Chelsea, who have two games in hand, and Spurs, who have one game in hand, after their 0-0 draw with Everton last night at The Emirates.

But despite their disappointing result against David Moyes’ side, Groves believes Arsenal have the better run-in than their London rivals and expects Arsene Wenger’s men to finish in the top four this season.

Arsenal have Fulham, Manchester United, QPR, Wigan and Newcastle left on their fixture list and Groves predicts his former club will finish in third place:

‘I’ve got Arsenal finishing in third place. I think they will get 11 points [from their last five matches].

‘I think Chelsea will be the ones to miss out. I think Spurs will be in fourth place. You look at Chelsea’s fixtures. They play Liverpool away, Manchester United away, Spurs at home and Everton at home.

‘With Chelsea you have also got to factor in the two games against Basel [in the Europa League semi-finals] as well. And Rafa Benitez is rotating his team at the moment and, as a player, when you are in and out it is difficult to get into that rhythm. You want to be playing game after game.’

Having looked at Chelsea and Spurs’ remaining games, we certainly have the ‘easier’ run-in.

However, Wenger and the team should not consider this and play like every game is a cup final.

I still believe we are in a great position to finish in the top four, despite last night’s draw. I would love to see us obtain third place, which I think is achievable, but I wouldn’t be too fussed as long as we qualify for the Champions League next season.

You got it all wrong. While Arsenal may come 4th and qualify for Europe, Chelsea is one of the strongest sides in EPL. As I am writing this comment, they have already taken the lead against Fulham.

Arsenal apparently were supposed to brush Everton to one side last night and struggled to get a shot on target
Fulham will beat arsenal at the weekend at there place, with Man U coming up next and can win the league at the Emirates. Points are going to be dropped at arsenal and that’s a fact
Arsenal won’t qualify for the champions league this season there luck has run out. There not good enough, Chelsea and spurs are better teams. Huff and puff makes a team tired

ab, and aicher got a stupid comments, first one talking about fulham, and the second talking about man united, he said arsenal will get 11 points from 5 games that means losing against man united, silly.

As a Spurs fan (and one that isn’t posting intending to wind up or aggravate) I agree completely, I think you lot will finish 3rd unfortunately for us again and it will be a close shootout between Spurs and Chelsea for 4th. Hopefully their fixture pile up will work in our favour but we havnt the easiest run in ether.

Arsenal supporters have a way of panicking unnecessarily. otherwise, why should we panic too much because Arsenal got one point from the Everton game? We seem to have forgotten that they are in the race for top four finish up till now. Any reasonable predictor would have entertained the possibility of a draw with Everton. While it would have been better had we taken all the three points, it is hardly the end of the road to take a point from Everton even when the game is played at the Emirates. Let us hold on to our support and we will be 3rd or at least 4th at the end of the season.
