Why this man would be a great summer signing for Arsenal

|

Ashley WilliamsWe all know that our side still lacks defensive discipline and can be very frail at times (just have a look back at what happened against the Spuds on Sunday). As a result of our diabolical defending throughout the season, many fans and pundits alike have called on Arsene Wenger to recruit a solid centre-back over the summer break to bolster and, more importantly, strengthen our back-line.

Several names have been linked with a move to The Emirates, such as Real Madrid’s Raul Albiol, and the latest to join the long-list of potential signings is Ashley Williams.

Th3 28-year-old Swansea captain has been in impressive form for Michael Laudrup’s side, making 31 appearances in all competitions and guiding the south-Wales outfit to Capital One Cup glory.

Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Wales international.

Should Williams be on top of our defenders wish-list this summer? I believe so.

Although he is built like a tank, Williams possesses great pace and movement, and would certainly solidify our back-line immensely.

In addition, the Welshman has Premier League experience under his belt and doesn’t mind getting stuck in when necessary.

I think he won a place in every Arsenal fans’ heart when he ‘nearly killed’ Robin van Persie by blasting the ball in the back of the striker’s head from point blank range when the two sides met earlier in the season.

I rate Williams highly (even before his incident with Van Persie) and honestly think he would be a great signing for Arsenal. He’s just the player we are looking for and I reckon if we offer Swansea around £7-10 million at the end of the season then they would probably consider selling the powerful centre-back.

I’d rather we spent our money buying out the remaining term of the contracts of players at the club. I won’t bother with a list – it will be endless. We just need a good spring clean before Wenger goes out and buys some more mediocre crap. Seems like he’s never understood quality over quantity!

while i do not doubt that he is a very good defender i must say the number of people that will grumble after we go out to spend money on him will double over again. what experience in Europe does he have and can you really see him marking out the likes of messi, ronaldo, benzema, falcao out of a game. dont get me wrong he does deserve a chance but he has earned it where he is lets see him now do it on the big stage and go from there.yes we could have bought the likes of cahill last year and lost him to the wealth of kings road. and boy wasnt he shone up in the group stages of this years champions league. yes he won it last year after the real work had been done in the group stages.
he is a leader no doubt but not yet for the big leagues and at 28/29 what we would end up being is his last big pay check need i remind you of the one we still have and need to get rid of ?

A time to congratulate myself I think. Ages ago I said Williams would be a good signing and was roundly mocked. Now it appears as not such an idiotic decision. If AW had listened to me we’d have had Jags & Walker from Sheff Utd years ago. All for the price of Santos too. If they’d been playing in French Div 2 only then would Wenger have seen their talent.

Ying “Can you really see him marking out the likes of messi, ronaldo, benzema, falcao …”

You mean like Senderos, Sylvestre, Cygan, Djourou, Squid, Kos, TV, Turpitz?

    Wenger out.

Its our collective defending that lets the team now not individually.

Sagna, Vermanlen Kozzer and Gibbs are all good enough but the confidence is shot because the team dont defend as a unit.

This is bullshit…….. a player like him will never improve the team………I am so surprized to see our standard has gone down that much
