Gunners keen on Saint-Etienne striker dubbed ‘the African Neymar’

|

Pierre-Emerick AubameyangAfter Gunners scout Gilles Grimandi had a close look at Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the player dubbed as ‘the African Neymar’, the Daily Mail claim Arsenal have now joined Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham in the race to sign the 23-year-old at the end of the season.

Aubameyang impressed Grimandi in Saint-Etienne’s 2-2 draw with Rennes on Friday night, where the Gabon international netted his 16th goal of the season for the French outfit.

Known for his quick feet, skill and technical ability – hence his comparison to Brazil star Neymar – Aubameyang has apparently attracted the attentions of a number of Premier League clubs, whom have sent representatives to watch him in action this season.

The Mail suggests Arsene Wenger will send Grimandi and chief scout Steve Rowley to France to continue to watch the Gabon forward from now until the end of the season, and if they are impressed with what they see then the club will ponder a £10 million move for Aubameyang, who would love to play in the Premier League, when the transfer window re-opens in June.

However, it is thought that the Ligue 1 side will hold out for bids in the region of £15 million, having rejected a bid from Newcastle in the previous window.

Wenger could certainly part ways with £15 million, as the Frenchman will be handed at least £70 million to spend over the summer period.
