City defender emerges as shock Arsenal target

|

Micah RichardsAccording to The Sunday Mirror, Manchester City may add Micah Richards to the club’s summer exodus and have linked the England international with a move to Arsenal.

The Gunners were once interested in the 24-year-old full-back and with Bacary Sagna’s future in doubt at The Emirates, Richards would be seen as an ideal replacement for the Frenchman by many of the Arsenal faithful – including me.

City will almost certainly look to bring in new big-name players this summer, which include Edinson Cavani, and as such will offload a lot of deadwood, Richards included.

The powerful right-back has been sidelined with a knee problem since October and has fallen down the pecking order at both club and country level and knows he needs to play regularly in order to make Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.

Richards will find it hard to get back his spot in Roberto Mancini’s side with Pablo Zabaleta being the Italian’s preferred choice at right-back.

If Richards is on his way out of City this summer then, providing he keeps his fitness up, Arsenal should definitely have a look at him.

He has Premier League experience under his belt, is strong, as well as pacey, and also has a terrific work-rate. I also think he is an Arsenal fan!

Richards is deadwood? You wish, mate! He was outstanding last year and only injury has held him back from progressing this season. As awesome as Zab has been, it’s unlikely he’ll improve more. I’ll be shocked it Richards leaves this summer.

Would be a good replacement for Sagna. Hasn’t lived up to his ridiculous early hype when the media were valuing him at £30m, but thought he was excellent last season and there are few better realistic signings I can think of at right back.

Might be a good signing but could be of more use as a centre half
