‘As long as they want me here, there is no ‘somewhere else”

Wojciech SzczesnyWojciech Szczesny says he will stay at Arsenal until they don’t want him anymore. This comes after the 22-year-old Poland international was dropped by Arsene Wenger for Arsenal’s Champions League game against Bayern Munich last week, as the Frenchman felt the young goalkeeper was mentally fatigued.

Szczesny remained on the bench in our 2-0 win over Swansea on Saturday, leaving many questioning his future at the club. However, the confident shot-stopper maintains he is happy to stay at the club.

Quoted in The Sun, Szczesny said:

‘I have a debt to pay here for the club, I owe them. I just do not want to go anywhere else.

‘As long as they want me here, there is no ’somewhere else’, and I have a contract until June 2015.’

I think many media outlets are getting a little ahead of themselves about this situation with Szczesny. The fact is he has been dropped by Wenger because he hasn’t performed well. This doesn’t mean that Szcz will be off at the end of the season. If anything this will ground the Pole a little and make him think that his place in the starting line-up is not guaranteed, and rightly so.

On his day, he is a great goalkeeper, and we all want him to remain at the club. But his form has dipped as of late, hence his omission from the starting 11 in the past two games.
