‘Is it realistic to win the Champions League? Why not?’

|

Thomas VermaelenThomas Vermaelen believes Arsenal CAN win the Champions League despite being dumped out of the FA Cup to Blackburn over the weekend.

The Gunners look highly likely to end another campaign without any silverware after being humbled by Blackburn at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon and the humiliating loss to the Championship side couldn’t have come at a worse time, with Bayern next on their fixture list.

Many Arsenal fans expect their side to receive a mauling against the formidable German side tonight, but Vermaelen insists they can overcome the Bavarian outfit if the fans who booed them off get behind the team.

The 27-year-old centre-back said:

‘The result against Blackburn was terrible.

‘It’s normal the fans are disappointed but we need them to believe as well. We need their support 100 per cent on Tuesday.’

‘Anything can happen in the Champions League.’

Vermaelen then said Arsenal have every chance of winning the entire competition, a comment which may very well have a lot of The Emirates faithful raising their eyebrows and scratching their heads:

‘Is it realistic to win the Champions League? Why not? It’s a tournament, I believe in our chances.’

Indeed any side can very well win the Champions League, look who won it last season for goodness sake!

However, if we are to be classified as serious contenders for the trophy then the players will need to be on their game and Arsene Wenger MUST get his tactics spot on.

Do I realistically see us winning the Champions League? No. But stranger things have happened.
