Agnew believes Arsenal target is worth his £20M price-tag

|

JoveticItaly-based journalist Paddy Agnew believes Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic is worth his £20 million price-tag.

The Gunners were linked with a move for the Fiorentina ace during the January transfer window, with many reports suggesting the north London club were preparing a £20 million bid for the 23-year-old.

And Agnew reckons Jovetic, who is contracted to the Florence club until 2016, the Montenegro international would flourish in the Premier League.

When asked if he is worth his £20 million price-tag, Agnew replied:

‘Well he’s certainly worth a lot of money. He is a very good player, a very good player.

‘Three summers ago he joined Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade for €8 million. But immediately after his arrival, there were already people comparing him to one of Fiorentina’s most famous footballers Roberto Baggio.’

He went on to describe the type of player Jovetic is:

‘He’s a striker, but he’s not a big target man. He’s a guy with terrific balance, a lot of skill, Eastern European skill as you would expect. He’s got pace and he’s got a sense of goal. He’s scored 14 goals last season and he’s already scored nine goals this season.’

He was then asked if Jovetic was a natural striker like Robin van Persie or a player that likes to float around. Agnew said:

‘He’s not a central striker, absolutely not. He’s played as a left winger on occasions. Alongside a big target man he would be absolutely ideal.’

Although Jovetic would be a fantastic signing for us this summer, one that would certainly give us more options up-front. However, I don’t think Arsene Wenger is prepared to shell out £20 million for him.

AC Milan and Juventus are also said to be monitoring the forward.

Exactly what you would have said about Van Persie a few years ago…

That exactly the problem for Arsenal. Wenger! If as today’s market dictates, a player is worth 20 million, why can’t Wenger spend it? It is clear that Arsenal have good players, but they need exceptional players to get back to being genuine competitors for honours.

During our title winning days, we had good players and exceptional players. Vieira, Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Overmars, Cole, Adams, Campbell were exceptional players, while the likes of Toure, Lauren, Gilberto, Ljungberg, etc were good players. Today with the exception of Wilshere and Santi, the rest are good players, not exceptional. So Wenger MUST stop being frugal and sign players of Jovetic’s quality if we are to win again

None of the players you just mentioned cost 20 million. Pod and theos assist/goal records are up there with the best in the league. they didnt cost 20 mil. What are you on about? and how do you know if jovetic is quality? i understand the market has changed but our players have NEVER cost that much so i dont see where you are coming from to be honest. Wenger spent good money for carz and pod and they are smashing the league in their first season. The market doesnt dictate that anyone costs that money unless you are a top 3 super rich club and have to pay that to secure the signing along with 150,000 a week wages.

If hecan start banging in the goals,RVP will be forgotten. I believe Wenger will pay for not paying what RVP wanted. Had he satyed I believe Arsenal could be challenging for the epl.
As it is,it is indeed agrave misjudgement of the fm. And if Arsenal fail to get 3rd,he shd go. 4th aint good enough because if red faced wins the cl,only the europa leauge spot is the prize.

RVP didnt leave for money, he left for titles!!!!!! Man City offered him more more than Man utd but he wanted to go to utd. Still doesn’t stop him being a traitor! we are in this position because of wages not transfer fees, wenger f’d up by give loads of youngsters similar money to the best performing players. now they’ve turned out to be either average or disloyal when they come good, he has had to rethink his strategy hence more British players, more players sent out on loan until there contracts expire

I just hope when rd faced next plays QPR,red knapp will telll his boys to scrap for everyball like they did inthe Chelsea game.Too often many teams have rolled over to allow the rf to win.
He can’t be be winning all or 100% of the time. I am praying Mourino will beat the hated rf by a 2 goal margin otherwise the rf thinks he is entitled to win the cl.
As for Wenger ,make sure Arsenal beat him.Don’t be too predictable and open to counter attack. If possible, man mark the traitor and the ugly bulldog like he did to Fellaini.

ARSENAL should still try and buy David Villa , he is an experienced strike who can help the other strikers. We think short term and we as long term. Villa will be a short term solution. 2 to 3 years maybe as the other younger strikers develop more.
