Why Arsenal must sign this Birmingham starlet now

A few days ago, Jack Butland claimed he is ready to play at the highest level.

Arsenal have reportedly been interested in the 19-year-old in the past and with no real competitor for Wojciech Szczesny’s number one jersey at The Emirates, should Arsene Wenger prepare a bid for the promising shot-stopper?

I believe so.

Having watched him during the London Olympics over the summer and a few games for the Blues already this season, I think his statement is an accurate.

Butland has all the qualities to succeed at the top level and even push Joe Hart for the number one spot in the England line-up in the near future.

The 6’5’’ keeper has great reflexes, aerial ability, communication skills and commands his box extremely well for someone so young.

The Daily Mirror reported he is valued at around £6 million and Birmingham boss Lee Clark may have to sell him due to the Championship side’s financial difficulties. So why not make a move for the England international?

Butland would be an excellent signing in my opinion and would certainly keep Szczesny on his toes, as well as challenge for the Pole’s spot in the starting line-up.

It, in my opinion, would be foolish not to make a move for the English starlet after his latest comments.

Do you reckon Arsenal should step in and try and sign Butland?

At £6 million why not?If it means that we dont have to pray that szczeny stays fit for fear of our reserve keepers. Also given the contractual news of last week it makes sense to sign another young British player

He said he’s ready to play at the highest level. That means teams who win trophies – so why would he play for Arsenal?

Arsenal have been in the top flight longer than any club. The only team ever unbeaten for a full season. 13 titles in the league, one of only 5 to win the premier. Have earned the trophys not bought them. That makes Arsenl top flight, have you ever been to a match?

What are you doin on a gooner site? Got nothing to do? Arsenal play at the highest level. PL and CL football I believe. Anyway, he needs to be no.1 at his next club. The top five all have good keepers that won’t be dropped for a prospect. Everton and Liverpool though…

He said “he is ready to play at the highest level and working towards that goal playing for Birmingham City” and he has no intention of leaving this season. Clark has also stated that it will take a lot more than the £6m offered by Southampton last season as he is already an England international.

I love us to buy him. However, I think he’d be more like 10 million…

Butland: everytime i see him he is an accident waiting to happen. overrated.
i much prefer the Huddersfield GK Smithies who is young too and has always impressed me when i saw him play

  • Revillinho says:

Arsenal missed a trick in not signing the best goalkeeper coach in the country, Dave Watson from Birmingham. He joined Norwich this season but whilst at Brum drastically improved Ben Foster and Joe Hart as well as Butland. Oh and he also works for England too!

Butland has improved alot since the olympics. When we had hart on loan he looked poor for a few games then improved into the keeper he is and Jack seems to be going the same way.I hope we don’t sell him because he already looks better than most of the premier league keepers. There is always speculation with good players at lower league clubs and we get it constantly with him going to liverpool, everton or man city but he really wants to play and be number 1 and he seems happy to do that at blues.Whether that will change in january with our dodgy owner prepared to sell anything thats not nailed down only time will tell.
