Here are my Arsenal player ratings from today’s 1-0 victory over Wigan at the DW Stadium (feel free to argue or agree with me):

Wojciech Szczesny – Made a few decent saves during the match, especially in the second-half when Wigan went down. Good performance from the brash Pole. 7/10

Bacary Sagna – Looked out of shape. Positioning was poor throughout and was getting skinned by the Wigan winger far too often. Doesn’t look 100% fit yet. 5/10

Per Mertesacker – Another solid display from the ‘Big F’in German’. Kept us in the game at times making some vital interceptions and was brilliant placed throughout. Growing in confidence as the season progresses. 8/10

Thomas Vermaelen – Was overshadowed by Per’s performance, but the Belgian also had a great game. Marshalled the back-line well and his confidence is starting to come back. 7.5/10

Kieran Gibbs – The England international did well. Linked well down the left with Podolski and always looked to give the Arsenal attack another option. Did well defensively also. Good game. 7/10

Mikel Arteta – His passing was a little off today and, as always, seems out of the game when he’s not. Held his position well and fought hard. Scored Arsenal’s penalty. 7/10

Jack Wilshere – Got stuck in from the get go. Always looked to drive the team forward and set the tempo of the game with his tackling. Another passionate display from arguably a future club captain. 7.5/10

Santi Cazorla – Was very quite for me today. His movement was a little off and held on to the ball, at times, far too long. Still a quality player though so can be excused for one bad outing. 6/10

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Man of the Match for me. Wasn’t scared to run with the ball and simply ripped Wigan’s left-back to shreds. Delivered some nice balls into the box and was unfortunate not to get an assist to his name today. 9/10

Lukas Podolski – Did ok. Linked well with Gibbo and found good positions. Could have done better in the final third though. 5/10

Theo Walcott – Thought he could have done better with his finishing today, but besides that he done alright. Made a few intelligent runs in the match and won the penalty for his team. Needs to do better in the position in the future if he wants to claim it. 6/10

SUBS:

Aaron Ramsey – Replaced ‘The Ox’ with 15 minutes left to play. Didn’t do much to be honest. Helped Sagna when the team weren’t in possession of the ball on the right and had a few touches along the way. 5/10

Francis Coquelin – Came on for Podolski in the 79th minute. Got stuck in and held his position in midfield well. 5/10

Laurent Koscielny – Replaced Cazorla in the 91st minute with three minutes to play. As such, the Frenchman didn’t have enough time to get involved in the game. N/A

the defence and keeper won us the game with some luck coming from wigan’s poor finishing. i think it was not a good attacking performance at all the defence was resilient enough to get us the maximum arsenals attacking chemistry is a worry against decent opposition. we dont make enough runs like we used to. i hope we buy in the winter but i doubt there is anyone really world class available whos a long term solution to our problems until the summer. personally i would rather buy a cavani in the summer then a huntler this winter.

Strange, Sagna was my man of the match today. Won everything, nothing got past him, was solid. Didn’t think the Ox played well, made a couple of runs in the second half but didn’t do anything in the first. Liked Jack’s attitude but he’ll get himself sent off making stupid tackles. None of our attackers played better than average. Defence won us the game. Good three away points.

Just got back from there, gud 3 points but oh we were so lucky,i feel we will strugle against the top half of the league, cant see us buying more that 1 player in jan,we need at least 3 top quality players to compeet at the top.

Walcott threw away most of our chances..why is wenger bringing in ramsey always wat happened to rosicky..we need just 1 striker dis winter..giroud is another chamack..wenger should stop dis french businex of he’s.

mom was the ox-yet wegner always subs him with ramsey-dont know what he is doing.the ox was in a different cass.

  • Ogejohns says:

Wenger keeps proving to us how bad a gaffer he is. Why should wenger always put panicky to the team at the dying munites of every match by playing ramsey. Ramsey is too bad a player, no sane manager will field such a player in his team.

  • Eugene Danso says:

U are right; Ox the BEST n should not have been substituted b’cos of Sagna. The White shit lane in tears.

  • afc says:

c’mon cut them the slack, ramsey is more defensive we only had a 1goal lead to protect it makes sense. if they had equalised everyone would say why didn’t he add more defensive players? but i think this time he was right to do it to we could shut wigan out. its when we are losing he makes that sub which is fucking irritating because ramsey is not an attacking winger as thats not his position. sadly ramsey is becoming the new arshavin, hes career is stalling very fast because of wengers madness best thing for him is a loan. he needs some playing time in the right position to regain his conference and form.

    • iivorstephens says:

Ramsey reminds me a lot of rosicky. For a long time I could never figure out why Wenger ever gave him a game, only for him to improve beyond recognition last term.Ramsey can play he just needs to rediscover some confidence and hell be ok

  • ivorstephens says:

Not a good performance particularly mind you we’ve come unstuck there a few times recently so a win is a win.The defence did it’s job and our attack conjured the penalty excellently.Wigan played well as much as we were functional.Still onwards and upwards to Newcastle next week
