Recent reports claim Bordeaux president Jean Louis Triaud would happily welcome back Arsenal misfit Marouane Chamakh.

The Morocco international left Bordeaux for Arsenal in the summer of 2010 on a free and took no time to show The Gunners how influential he was, scoring 10 goals in all competitions, while Robin van Persie was busy nursing an injury.

Coincidentally, his appearances and performances halted out as RVP resumed action, marking the beginning of the end of Chamakh. He keeps finding it hard to replicate his earlier form for The Gunners while he gradually watches his name fade away in the hearts of many Arsenal fans.

After a series of no-luck-trials, he was linked with a move away from The Emirates stadium, but his poor form and 50k-a-week wages seems to scare away all possible suitors.

The 28-year-old rejected the possibility of a return to Bordeaux earlier last summer, claiming he would wait and fight for his place at Arsenal.

He featured in a couple of matches during the pre-season but never looked convincing. His last goal for the club came on the 17th of September 2011 in a match against Blackburn, which Arsenal eventually lost 3-4.

Chamakh plummeted down the pecking order after the arrival of both Lukas Podolski and Oliver Giroud, and his only appearance this season came as a 72nd substitute in the Capital One Cup match against Coventry City last month. It is quite clear that the former Bordeaux man has become surplus to requirements at The Emirates.

Most Gooners will be glad to see him leave Arsenal due to his perpetual run of poor form and his large wages. And the wishes of several fans have apparently been granted after Triaud told Le 10 Sport:

‘Chamakh? He knows when he wants too, he can return to Bordeaux – but he is happy in London,’

As if that statement has not revealed enough, he went on to say:

‘Salaries are different in England, but last December I sent him a message to tell him that if you are not happy in London, come home, and that message is still relevant today.’

The beautiful part of this is that this message is still active. To see Chamakh leave Arsenal is not my joy, but the significant reduction in the club’s wage structure and an opportunity for younger strikers in the squad to make an impression in the first-team is what pleases me about this.

Bordeaux is where Chamakh belongs, so I hope this link eventually leads to a transfer.

Fade away? Long gone to all arsenal fans I know. Good luck to him but his arsenal career died a long time ago.

the door is wide open for him. There is no room for him at arsenal

So who plays striker if Giraurd and Gervinho get injured?

I guess Podolski or Walcott. Discounting Walcott, then you’ve only got Podolski. For the team, I’d rather us have a back up. We know Chamakh can score in the EPL. He had 9 before Christmas of his first year. With a couple injuries he could find himself playing regularly again, which seems to be what he needs to find his form.

However, if we sign another striker this January, then I’d be fine seeing him go.
