Time for Wenger to drop this forward? [poll]

I’m just going to cut to the chase – why does Arsene Wenger insist on starting with Gervinho?

What is the Frenchman’s obsession with the Ivorian?

Two questions I simply cannot seem to answer.

The 25-year-old forward has started seven of Arsenal’s eight Premier League matches so far this season, scoring three goals along the way.

But his overall performances since, I would say, the Southampton game have been abysmal to say the very least.

I watched the game yesterday evening and although the team’s overall performance was shocking and lacklustre, I have to say Gervinho was probably the worst player on the pitch by a country mile.

His decision-making was poor, he never released the ball when he should have and never troubled the Norwich back-line – it was like we were playing with 10 men throughout the whole game.

And what was even more frustrating was Wenger’s decision not to substitute him! Like he was playing a blinder or something.

Wenger needs to realise he cannot transform Gervinho into a world class striker like he did with Thierry, as the former simply does not have the ability to lead the line.

In my opinion, I believe Gervinho needs to be dropped from the starting line-up for a while, as his performances to date have simply not been up to scratch.

Think about the team Arsene, not about one player and your ego!

Should Wenger drop Gervinho from the starting line-up?

Sacrifising one player when the whole team was shit is at least stupid. Was Ramsey on the pitch? What did Santos do well? Mannone was rubbish as well. Vermaelen was anything but a leader etc etc.

I would suggest you bring this down. It is discrimination against a certain player. You channel the frastration of the fans against one player for reasons you only know!

    Arsene Knows.

Ramsey and WENGER MUST GO. I don’t know why he likes Ramsey so much, maybe he goes out with his sister?
Wenger has stayed for to long he has run out of ideas. He is there becoz of those directors who want him to make money for them by buying players from primark

  • richard morgan says:

I would disagree however, the worst player on the pitch was ramsey. he got shrugged of the ball to easily. The biggest point for me though is when he is struggling for form or confidence he slows the ball down and plays it sideways or back and he had one of those days. Gnarbry looked lively when he came on. but Mannone is not a top class keeper i would hope Wenger goes and buys a decent keeper to challenge sczesney when he returns to fitness. City have pantimillon and hart
united have de gea and lindegard even tottenham have friedel and lloris now.

I totally agree with your opinion of Ramsey. He is a midfield blockage going forward. He puts his foot on the ball, waits for the opponents defence to reform before deciding to pass it backwards. He has had more than enough opportunities and has proved he is not good enough to start in an Arsenal shirt. With Jack back, and if Diaby can stay fit for more than two games hopefully he will just disappear. What ever happened to the young german lad who all the pundits were ranting about in our pre season games ?

I totally disgree with all of the above. especially those claiming other teams have better keepers than ours. really? pantimillion (who?) their 3 rd choice keeper is richard wright. chelse have who as back up to cheque? lindegaard and de gea drop me right out. as for those shite down the road. loris has already admitted he has made a midtake in joining them and their other keepere are almost dead or shite.

  • Stefanb says:

He should be dropped from playing on the wing and be put up front instead.

He was performing excellently when he was playing as a striker. But all of a sudden Wenger dropped him and started playing Giroud instead.

Nice going Wenger! Dropping our only player who along with Podolski seems like the only one capable of scoring. Which brings me onto another point: Playing Podolski out wide is a waste of talent. The same was said with Arshavin but Wenger did not budge there either.

    In Wenger we rust?

    • ballow says:

Gervinho is arsenal’s problem togetjer with Giroud,he Gervinho waste balls and too selfish.I wonder why podolski is not our main striker he is the most lethal man we hav for now upfront but wenger sub him everytime.smh

  • GO says:

I’m sorry, but you’re dead wrong there about Gervinho. Gervonho wasnt our problem on the pitch yesterday, the whole team just didnt turn up. We are not the only team in the league that have internationals who have to play for their country, other teams also do and they manage that well.

In our present team and if you’ve watched all the games we’ve played this season so far, you will realize that Gervinho is our most lethal goal threat till today. He can rattle and disorganize any defence with his skills in the centre. I believe Arsene needs to stick with Gervinho as our centre forward. Having a front three of gervinho Walcott and Podolski will confuse any defence because we will consistently be more unpredictable in the final third and that will always create goal scoring opportunities.

Giroud in my opinion will still be more effective coming off the bench as he can use his build and hold up play more effectively against tired defences.

    • Arsecaster says:

      Well said my knowledgable friend

    • juniorh says:

I am dying with laughter. Why would Giroud need to be coming off the bench to hold up play against a tired defence? One would think that one needs to be moveing away from tired defence, not be static and holding up play.

And, that is where (ineffective against good defenders) Gervinho comes in – off the bench to leaving the tiring defence in his wake. Thats the only way he will be effective.

  • Stephen says:

D Gerv is d only player who could drive d opponent’s defence in yesterday’s match. He plays better on d left. If only our attackers would understand him. He always get on d line and cuts d call back only to find no body. Jekinson pulled in many decent crosses, no body to connect. If anyone should leave d attack, i tink u kno who it should!

  • Larry says:

All we hear about Is Mr wengers great talent spotting and great house keeping one question three points gervineo£14million, giroud£12million, arshavin£16million if that is not the greatest waste off money ever then I am missing something wengers it’s time to GO

    • morale says:

torres 50mil, carrol 35 mil, santa cruz 18mil, berbatov 31 mil… still feel those guys u mentioned are the greatest waste of money?

  • UMOH EKWO says:

Ijust wonder what Ramsey is always doing on the pitch for Wenger. He is a piece of negativity on the field yet Wenger plays him every match. Starting from last season check all the mmatches Ramsey started and see how Arsenal faired. Also check those matches he didn’t start or play and you will see what I mean.

    • ps mani says:

chamak might have done better? is anyone ready to buy mr.ramsey? for me he was the villion and gervino was the joker! god must save this arsenal team.

  • Kevin says:

The team as a whole were poor yesterday. Wenger needs to shake up the team a bit. Were getting stale and teams are blocking out Carzola and Arteta plays to far back to make more of a difference. We need to start bringing on Arahavin for Carzola in the 2nd half to freshen up the midfield and maybe start to play Chamak more. We have the players that can change a game. When are we gonna start pushing for games late is another question

  • Very Angry man says:

Guys, I want you to know that Wenger is our big problem, Yes Ramsey and Gervinho were sluggard yesterday without a doubt, but as a manager, was he blind to see what was happening on the pitch after 45 minutes? a manager suppose to pick out which player is not doing well, then substitute such a player immediately, but Mr Wenger can never do that, he is an egotistical man, a man never believe of making mistakes. Man, even if we have Messi and Ronardho, he will get it wrong, his players selection is bad. Gnary is better player to Ramsey, Ramsey is not good for our game, he is too slow, and Gervinho is very selfish, when u expect him to pass the ball he would not, to me Weneger, Ramsey and Gervinho are responsible for the lost yesterday, it was a shame. A typical arsenal ways though, not unsual.
