According to talkSPORT, sources in Italy claim Johan Djourou is being targeted by Roma, with the Italian club thought to preparing a move for the Swiss centre-back.

The 25-year-old defender is below the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in the centre-back pecking order and has previously been urged by his national coach, Ottmar Hitzfeld, to consider his future after making just 14 starts for Arsene Wenger’s side last season.

Djourou hasn’t featured in the Premier League and only has a Capital One Cup appearance to his name so far this season.

Roma are thought to be keen on the out-of-favour Switzerland international, as they look to strengthen their backline, and are lining up a winter move for Djourou.

Seeing how Djourou’s contract doesn’t expire until 2015 and is a back-up option just in case any of our favoured centre-backs pick up an injury, I don’t see Wenger selling him – unless of course the Frenchman brings someone else in.
