Despite reported interest from Napoli, Vito Mannone wants to stay at Arsenal.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper has somewhat impressed for The Gunners this season whilst Wojciech Szczesny has been injured, and as a result has been linked with a move back to Italy, with Napoli leading the chase for his signature.

However, the Italian has recently stated he wants to stay at The Emirates and honour his contract, which expires in 12 months time.

Quoted in The Sun, Mannone said:

‘I want to make it clear, because there have been unfounded rumours, that my contract is not ending in 12 months.

‘I’ve got a few more years and I’m happy to be at Arsenal right now. I’m looking at the present and my future is not in doubt.

‘I want to stay at Arsenal as long as I can, I don’t want to move to any other club.’

Many, if not all, Gooners, will not care whether Mannone leaves the club or not, as he is seen as nothing more than the third-choice goalkeeper. Now whilst this may be true, I for one am glad to hear the Italian expressing his desire to stay at Arsenal. We need/want players to play for the club and, honestly, I believe, if he keeps up his good form and impresses in weeks to come, he can really push Szczesny for the number one jersey.

If this was a year ago, then I would’ve been glad to seen the back of him. However, he has come back from his loan spell at Hull and his Greek blunder a more determined and better player.

He still needs to improve some aspects of his game but he is finally getting there.
