‘They should accept something around £12 million’

Stewart Robson has had a lot to say about the transfer saga surrounding Robin van Persie.

Just last week, the former Gunner urged the club to get rid of the Dutch striker as soon as possible so it doesn’t interfere with the team’s preparations ahead of the new season.

You would’ve have thought we’d gotten the message by now. Evidently, Robson wants Van Persie out, and his latest comments are a clear indication of this.

The 47-year-old now believes the club must reduce their valuation for the Dutch international or he will not be sold!

Juventus, Manchester United and City have all registered their interest in the forward, with the Premier League duo reportedly making £15 million bids, while the Italian club are preparing a £20 million offer for the Dutchman.

With only one year remaining on his contract and Arsenal reluctant to sell below their asking price, it seems Van Persie may stay at The Emirates and leave on a free. However, Robson claims it would be foolish to hold on to Van Persie and insists the club should sell him, even if it is below their valuation.

He told talkSPORT:

‘At the moment it doesn’t look like anyone is willing to pay the price Arsenal are asking for Robin van Persie.’

‘Arsenal could end up being stuck with Van Persie, which some people might say is a good thing, but he doesn’t want to be there. It’s a difficult situation for the player, the club and the fans.

‘They should accept something around £12million.

‘This is a player who’s said he’s not going to sign for Arsenal again. I don’t see how it can work if a player doesn’t want to be at the club.’

£12 million for Van Persie?

The man who was named the PFA Player of the Year and picked up the Football Writers’ gong?

The man who scored 30 Premier League goals and was awarded the Golden Boot honour?

I don’t think so Robson.

Why should Arsenal lower their asking price for their star player? Ok he’s 28 and is in his last year of his contract, but Van Persie is one of the best footballers in the world and to sell him for around £12 million would be stupid. We should

If one of the three clubs mentioned above, or any other for that matter, want to sign Van Persie then they’re going to have to fork out the price we are asking for.

So why exactly is Robson shilling for Arsenal’s competitors? Why is he always so bitter? Why does he hate Wenger so?

h¡Hello fellow gooners, with aLL due respect to Robson, why should we sell RVP cos he wants to leave, if it is so important to you, then tell him to hand in a transfer request.-

  • jk says:

This guy is a tosser!! Never a good word to say about arsenal probably why talk sport want him on their show!

I use to have a lot of time for Robson, even at times I felt he was over critical. He has a good knowledge of football in general, particularly Arsenal. However it is clear whilst he has an inside knowledge of the club, he does not like Wenger! He also is always negative towards Walcott, this is not always justified, such as the second half performance at Chelsea, where he would have taken Walctt off at halftime.

Whilst he is a goog commentator, he is not always objective concerning Arsenal. He cashes in on the Arsenal relationship with the media, taking advantage of his inside information and contacts. I believe he has now become too crtical, and does not give Wenger any credit for anything. robson as far as Arsenal are concerned is pass his sell- by date.

For 12 Mil, and his current wages, it would be worth making him see out his contract!

with all due respect to Robson, i feel if RVP wants to leave so badly then he should send in a tranfer request.
Robson says ,if the player don’t want to be there, so does that mean everytime a player is not happy , we should sell them immediately, if we sell them the way Robson wants who will be left.
Am really disappointed that this is coming from an arsenal fan, ooh i see robson, they got to you too. This is why Arsenal Fc are been disrespected cos of wishy washy pundits like you,

yes RVP scored goals last season, but he is a striker this is what strikers do, rvp was not alone in this, in fact the whole team should be take the credit for this, not rvp.

Arsenal fc , are not obligated by law , person or entity to sell rvp.

Robson should understand football is a tyeam sport ,not a one man show, maybe we should have sold rvp , those 7 yrs that he was injured , and never gave us nothing.
People talk about titles as if wenger don’t want titles, as if gazidis does not want titles , as if we the fans don’t want titles..

  • Ogbor Victor says:

we’ve been stigmatise a club that sells their best player, wenger wants rvp to see out his contract, that is why his making it difficult,if not solders are recruited an solders are retired or dicharged but the barracks still remains

  • David Drama says:

RVP has never said he wants to leave Arsenal.
He just said he will not sign a new contract because he disagree with Arsenal long term plans.
Please note that there he made this statement without discussing about wages. What I find amusing is that we make all assumption based on one statement he made this summer. He has not come out to confirm that he wants to leave or that he is disatisfied in Arsenal… so give my man a slack. RVP action is a mean to enhance his negotiation position as well as forcing Arsenal to force Arsenal to invest…. correct me if im wrong, but RVP plan seem to be working 🙂 If you were in RVP situation, wouldnt u do the same?

If you believe that RVP will leave, please provide me with any up-to-date statement ….
but u cant, since there is none… my question is whether its RVP who should apologize or is all the fake fans who buys everything the media says?

RVP will sign a 2 years deal with Arsenal…. RVP is a gooner till he dies…

    • GoonerHOOT says:

Very sensible comments. The media have taken what RvP said and made the assumption that the opposite must be true. The whole thing has been blown outta proportion, I would be happy to keep him, signed or not. GFL

  • Mick says:

How about the traitor Robson urging the teams who want RVP to increase their bids rather than urge Arsenal to lower their asking price. The man is a know nothing twit who got no higher than Reserve team manager at Southend and technical director at Rushden and Diamonds, now gone to the wall. Wow, what an achievement.

  • goonerbegood says:

    @David Drama,

we love rvp too, but when you see ex – arsenal palyers almenting that we should sell our capptain cos he is not happy , then you begin to ask qi¡uestions. There are too many unhappy people working for arsenal fc, too many mols like darren dein, … like robson , arsenal fc have to get rid of all these people and only keep those who trully believe in what the club is trying to achieve. Robson is just bitter , as nobody wants him at arsenal fc, so he is selling his stroy to the highest bidder, and expects us to roll over to rvp demands. Robson , it is a shame that you have been corrupted as well , ,how much did talk sports pay you , those anti arsenal biased radion talk show, all they are always after is to hear that arsenal fc are in disarray. jealousy ,envy coming from all over, other clubs envy us period.
we have done things the right way for years, and now it is paying off. AS MUCH AS I LOVE RVP. IF HE WANTS TO LEAVE SO BADLY , THEN HAND IN A TRANSFER REQUEST PERIOD.
