Is this becoming a summer trend?

So over a week ago we heard that Sergio Busquets would welcome Alex Song to the Nou Camp.

Then on Wednesday we heard Andres Iniesta have his say on the matter, stating his admiration for Song.

Now it’s the turn of defender Gerard Pique to do a bit of brown-nosing.

The Cameroon international has attracted the attention of Barcelona, with the Spanish club believed to be preparing a move for the 24-year-old before the summer transfer window shuts due to the departure of Seydo Keita.

This has left The Gunners preparing a new-bumper deal for the tenacious midfielder, despite having two-years left to run on his existing contract.

Now if we weren’t already unhappy with the words and, in my view, some illegal tapping up by Busquets and Inesta, then I’m pretty sure Pique’s latest statement would have definitely angered and riled up some Gooners out there.

The former Manchester United centre-back says he would be ‘happy to welcome’ the defensive midfielder to the Nou Camp:

‘Song is a great player with an impressive physical ability and good technique.

‘If he comes, which, from what I’ve read looks like it could happen, we are happy to welcome you.’

Clearly the Spanish trio are trying to persuade Song to quit Arsenal for Barcelona, like they (the club’s players) did with Cesc Fabregas last summer, and I’m almost certain, than I am Caucasian, that we’ll be seeing/hearing a few more Barca players express their ‘admiration’ and praise the Cameroonian before the summer is up.

Anyone want to take a bet on this?

I didn’t think so.

I’m suprised people are worried Song will leave. He is not a free agent for Christ sake. If he leaves, it is bcos the club wants him to, since he is under contract. I love Song so much to see hm waste hs talent bcos the player they want hm to replace was always on the bench. Bsides, they will never bench the Spaniard for hm to be a starter. Song is no fool not to know that. Chill Gunners, it is in our hands. We decide what to do with hm. Leave the press, they need to fill their pages.

Arsenal have become a feeder club and even worse, there is no one player deemed by Wenger important enough to hold on to at any cost. That sends a terrible message to all players and it’s a morale crusher. It makes it impossible to have any continuity in the squad or confidence in ones future as an Arsenal player. Every club in Europe knows that any Arsenal player can be had for the right fee. Wenger will never win another major trophy again .

  • Arseniel says:

Because of his age RVP is the perfect person for arsenal to make an example of, albeit very expensive in the short term. By making him see out the rest of his contract in the reserves (which he derives for his disloyalty) or on the bench, it will send out a big message to other clubs and any of our players who want to do an RVP. Arsenal won’t be pushed around by any other club or our own players under contract.

In a year’s time, who’s gonna a 30 year old RVP a four year contract at 200k/week – or even the the 150k we’ve offered him. His profile will not be what it is now.

The only acceptable exception to doing things this way is to hold out for What we’ve valued him at. Either way this would show our financial muscle that we have but have not flexed so far.
