A move to enhance the squad or the club’s profits?

Arsenal don’t seem to be done spending this summer with reports suggesting that the club are plotting a move for Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung, just a few days after finalizing the £16 million deal for Santi Cazorla from Malaga.

The 23-year-old’s talent was spotted by one of the Gunners representatives while on scouting assignments in Scotland last season.

The man who has been dubbed the ‘South Korean Steven Gerrard’ in his homeland is said to be available for around £9million and was recommended to Arsene Wenger by chief scout Steve Rowley.

So, potentially, another Korean in our squad who is highly rated by our scout and if this is to be believed then why not go for him, right?

Well I for one would stay away as it looks to me more of a marketing ploy to win over more fans in Asia rather than to enhance the team. Much like the purchase of Park Chu-Young last summer who we rarely saw play last season.

If he truly is like Gerrard then sign him up. I mean who wouldn’t want a Gerrard like player in their squad?

But, if he isn’t going to be used at all, like Park, then he’s probably better off where he is.

Atletico Madrid are also said to be chasing the Korean’s signature.

Seriously dude, what is it with putting out posts based on fuck all?

You never heard of the phrase ‘less is more’?

Or are you uust desperate to engender hits?

  • GoonerEris says:

I always wait till I see quotes or get an official position from the club, especially as the player in question has denied any such approach.

If he is going to be another Park, forget it.Arsenal have to have success on the pitch before profits from sponsorships come in.believe me,if the gunners can win the cl,it could generate 50% more in fees.

9 million is hardly a punt to improve profits just keep the 9 million and dont buy him. If we wanted to improve marketing we should have bought kagawa or honda!

The problem with Park was we paid £2m to get two years from the guy before he did his military service. The deal was heavily performance-based, appearance fees, etc. The trouble was, Park and Monaco colluded to hide the fact that he had just acquired a ten-year residency exemption. Once this was known, Park didn’t play.

So would Ki be like Park? Unlikely. But I bet Wenger would be much more careful about signing a South Korean that hadn’t done their military service next time round.

If its a move 2 replace song it not nice

I can’t understand why Wenger/Arsenal are considering making a bid for Ki Sung-yeung from Celtic, the last time we purchased a player called Park he never played and now he’s been told to find another club, it’s ridiculous. If we’re going to strengthen midfield then buy a player that the fans can actually watch play. What happened to bringing in Nurin on loan? At least he’d get to play rather than just being a promotional accessory!!!

We get criticized for not doing enough to maximize income, then when we make a move to get more fans which would bring money, the club gets criticised. It is not even a fact that we are even interested or know of him.

I love the way half the comments seem like the commenters havnt even read the article as they are just stating exactly the same argument with no additional info or feedback. COYG

AW is really good at make players fall to ruin. Not only the case of Park Chu Young. So hope Ki better go to other team that he can play, instead sitting on the bench like dead duck. I’m number one fan of Arsenal, but AW is just a BS.
