If RVP is sold for £20M, where should we look to reinvest the cash?

Santi Cazorla has flown to London for a medical ahead of his £17.5 million move to Arsenal.

However, many fans still want to know what the future of Robin van Persie is going to be.

It has been rumoured that Juventus are prepared to match our asking price (£20 million) and assuming that deal actually transpires or similar, where should Arsenal look to invest the cash?

Arsenal have already brought in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, so our attacking options, assuming we keep Theo Walcott, would be alright especially if Gervinho carries his pre-season form into the upcoming campaign.

With the imminent arrival of Cazorla coming in, this is definitely a positive rather than the opposite. However, with Tomas Rosicky missing the start of the season and Jack Wilshere not expected to be back until October at the earliest, it is certainly a possibility that Arsene Wenger will need to sign another midfielder.

But I think most people will agree that we still need to resolve our defence, although we haven’t played our full back four during our pre-season, it has still come under large criticism from the media and from some of our fans. It is these people who really need to realise that during our six games we didn’t once play a full strength squad. The majority of the team wasn’t even on the tour, yet we had players who stood out.

In my opinion, Arsenal really need an experienced right-back to come in otherwise we’ll end up taking our best centre-back Laurent Koscielny out of position which will not be a smart move.

Bacary Sagna is due to miss the start of the season but is expected to come back by the end of August. However, I still feel it is a position we need cover in as currently Carl Jenkinson and Francis Coquelin are both fighting for the spot, but neither have been solid when covering for injuries.

It is defensive cover we need. Now there are opinions divided on what we need to sign, either as mentioned a right back or a defensive midfielder like Yann M’Vila (although at this stage I cannot see that deal ever coming to light).

So what do you guys reckon?

If RVP is sold for £20 million, in what position should Wenger reinvest the cash in?

We NEEEEEEEED a left back, alot of the attacking play from the opposing teams comes through this area as gibbs is our weakest link at the back, he needs game time but he needs to be used as a sub or roatated in against teams we should comfetably beat.

You forget we have Yennaris to cover right back too and he has done well there. Jenkinson did well in pre-season it’s our strategy that has been poor.
I think people are missing the strategy we are employing and also don’t know much about carzola if you think we need a DM. Carzola is very much a box to box player he makes a lot of tackles and like Arteta is great at winning back the ball. Diaby is also very useful when defending but our strategy doesn’t call for a DM, we’re a possession team and our biggest flaw last season was not playing the ball quickly and when it was played quickly it was usually a missed pass that left us open to the counter. Carzola, Diaby, Arteta, Wilshire even Ramsey for GB are all fast ball playing players and Carzola offers a type of central penetration we’ve been missing.
Our defensive strategy is to attack not have a DM hanging back. We don’t need a new CB and we have enough cover on the flanks that we haven’t room for another full back and last seasons situation with all of them being out injured was a crazy fluke.

RVP should not be sold at any price bcos he’s the best striker in the world and arsene will not reinvest the cash

I think the rvp money is being spent on cazorla. do u honestly think arsenal would be spending £40m without some funds coming the.otber way. so far we have only recouped around £5m for vela and ozyakup plus a rumoured £500k loan fee for denilson. sure we have also got almunia benayoun hoyte botelho and a few other youngsters off the pay roll but we also took in another 12 scholars and handed out a number of improved contracts plus some new professionals. i dont expect anymore signings until squillaci bendtner park chamakh and arshavin depart……if they depart.

Overall, we just need a few more players to create a championship winning side. We need 2 good players for each position in our 4-3-2-1 formation.
Firstly, if Chezzer gets injured, we only have Mannone and Fabianski who are absolute calamitites in goal. Butland has been fantastic for club and country and is a bright future prospect.
Secondly, Sagna is injury-prone and Jenkinson and Coquelin are not mature enough for regular game time. Debuchy, Sagna’s deputy at international level, is the required replacement to regularly fill in.
Also, Gibbs and Santos are liabilities at left back with Santos parading as a winger more often than not. We NEED Baines, a world class player available at a mere 12-14M.
Our central midfield is fine, with Diaby being replaced by Coquelin or Frimpong when he’s injured and Wilshere being replaced by Sahin, brought in on a loan from Madrid as a temporary replacement.
And then the big one, RVP out, Cazorla in. Personally, I would offer him to Milan or Madrid and get Higuain or Pato in part-exchange but as Wenger prefers Cazorla, it means Podolski will play as a striker as he did for FC Koln while Giroud fills in as a quality backup.
In the meantime, the ‘deadwood’, Chamakh, Bendtner, Park, Arshavin, Denilson, Squillaci, Fabianski etc need to leave thereby generating funds for the above-mentioned players and this might be helped by the sale of RVP. While many people say that we should keep RVP, there is not a point in keeping a player who does not want to play for and accelerate the cause of Arsenal FC.

    Squad 2012/12:-
    GK: Chezzer, BUTLAND
    RB: Sagna, DEBUCHY
    CB: Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Djourou
    LB: BAINES, Gibbs
CM: Song, Arteta, Diaby , Wilshere (SAHIN)
    RW: Walcott, Chamberlain
    CAM: Rosicky, Ramsey
    LW: CAZORLA, Gervinho
    STR: Podolski, Giroud
