Do we really need to sign another striker?

With just a week to go until the transfer window closes and Arsenal have got some huge decisions to make in terms of whether or not to continue their spending.

Arsene Wenger has come out and said that he is looking to sign a midfielder and a defender, but there is no mention of bringing in another striker.

Since the departure of Robin van Persie over a week ago, many Arsenal fans have called on Wenger to sign a replacement, yet it seems to be falling on deaf ears.

But do we really need to acquire another forward?

We have already brought in Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski which means we do have a number of strikers available, even with the hopeful departure of Nicklas Bendtner.

It would be easy for fans to say, ‘yes we should snap up Fernando Llorente’. However, given the way Arsenal lined up against Sunderland, where exactly would he fit in?

Not wanting to take anything away from Llorente, but what message would we be giving to our strikers if we bring in another one?

I would be a lot happier if Wenger stuck to his guns and brought in a quality defender and defensive midfielder, and allow Santi Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud the time they need to settle in.

Currently, we have Gervinho, who is receiving mixed views by the fans. On one side it is great to see him running at defenders and down the wing, taking the game to the opposition. However, at times he makes me want to tear my hair out because his final ball is just not up to scratch.

Giroud obviously wasn’t fully fit and only ended up playing 25 minutes against Sunderland. He simply needs time to grasp the Premier League and how we play. The same goes for Podol.

We then have Theo Walcott, who still hasn’t signed a new deal at the club. I think we need to do as much as we can to keep Theo. His pace is worth it alone.

I only think we will need to sign another attack-minded player if Theo leaves.

But I believe we have enough firepower in the squad to push us forward. Wenger only needs to make two signings, and it’s not another striker!

    Do we need another striker?

    YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!

Arsenal have 2 playable specialist strikers
    Giroud and Podolski.

Man Utd have 5 playable specialist strikers
    RVP, Hernandez, Welbeck, Rooney, Macheda

Man City have 4 playable specialist strikers
    Aguerro, Tevez, Dzeko, Ballotelli

All have some wingers not included as specialist strikers.

Man U have Valencia, Nani. We have Gervinho, Walcott

If we just play with two specialist strikers for up to 60 games we will win NOTHING. Simple fact. Ridiculous not to buy another striker.

Yeah we dont need another striker…..wenger is right about the fact that we need a defensive midfielder and a defender.
The only problem i have is that we act slowly when it comes to transfers….he says we need those two signings, so when the h**k are we adding them to their squad???
He has to deal with these remaining two additions quickly so we can concentrate on what we have …

    Yes, yes we do.

For the reasons listed in the 1st comment.
Also think about this – we are 1 shawcross tackle away to a striker to having to rely on the 1 fit striker left or field Chamackh in at least some games….

Walcott does not look very happy and I have a bad feeling he wants out, therefore we might need to get a winger

    @ArsenalSteve

Whilst I agree with you in theory currently we have Podolski, Giroud, Chamakh, Park and Bendtner. 5 strikers. Our issue is the quality of the last 3 is questionable at best. If we offload 2 out of Chamakh, Park and Bentdner then we surley need to strengthen up front.
Also, our 25 man squad is too big currently to bring in any more players. The next week you will only see players out. We need to free up some wages and some squad space.

  • bc says:

We need a third option as a striker. it looks like bendtner and park are on their way so at the moment that 3rd option is chamakh. seriously does any of us want that? also if arshavin leaves our only wide options will be walcott chamberlain and gervinho. In january that will be just walcott and the ox. that again is not enough. bendtner doesnt need replacing but chamakh park arshavin and squillaci need replacing with llorente or dempsey / sahin or mvila / navas or adam johnson / yanga-mbwia or another versatile defender.

  • EIE says:

We only have 2 strikers and both unproven in the Premiership, the crap which is Bendtner, Chamack, Park & Arshavin need to be given away as free transfers to kept them off the wage bill, so in theory we need AT LEAST 2 more proven strikers.

  • Aussie Jack says:

Depending on the formation we play and the amount of games involved ,plus cover in case of injury, (and that does happen quite a lot at Arsenal)there is a fair argument for a third striker. We can forget, Chamakh, Park and Bendtner.
Wenger (IMO) is more concerned about Wilshere than he is letting on and we certainly need to strengthen the back four.

  • mo says:

one more striker cuz we are not gonna count chamak and bendner and park dats 3 out at least one in come on

  • topemagnus says:

If any1 says we don’t need a striker badly now such fellow should check his/her head, we can’t challenge for title with just poldi and Giroud else 2007-08 will repeat itself. We need a versatile CB ASAP as well and if we can’t get a DM then we have to let Le Coq do the job afterall Mvilla isn’t better than him. We can always promote from withtin to replace song just as song replaced Gilberto Silva. Yanga Mbiwa or the portuguese RB @ Euro2012 will do.
