‘Podolski and Giroud are NOT adequate replacements for RVP’

|

Another transfer window and another star possibly leaving, something we have become all too familiar with over the years – big stars departing, with no proper ready-made replacements brought in.

But this time I’d say we were better prepared for it. The signing of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud this summer look good enough acquisitions and replacements for want-away striker Robin Van Persie.

A few Gunners out there may say the two new boys aren’t good enough to replace the Dutchman. None more so than celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, who recently tweeted, and I quote:

‘Podolski & Giroud are NOT adequate replacements for @Persie_official – this is another catastrophe. We’re officially a selling club #Arsenal.’

Well I for one disagree with Piers, 100%.

Podolski is a more than capable replacement for Van Persie. Some of you may say that he choked in his time with Bayern Munich and maybe he did, but he is a much better player than he was then and has more experience under his belt. He is a good striker and needs to be given a chance, not written off straightaway.

As for Giroud, we will have to wait and see what he can offer. He’s come from winning the title with Montpellier in Ligue 1, an outcome no one could have predicted at the start of last season. What’s good is that he knows a thing or two about winning against the all the odds. Plus, he’s the kind of striker that can turn a game on its head and, more importantly, the Frenchman is a goal poacher.

I strongly believe Piers will be eating a large slice of humble pie come the end of this present season.

Are Podolski and Giroud adequate replacements for Van Persie?

  • Nothing just happen without reason, RVP statement has caused commotion in the board and the fans. Anybody can go in Arsenal, the team is not build on any player including RVP. So, we should be careful with our statement. The winner of the leaque in Germany, played for 6 seasons without trophies, today they’ve won the leaque for two good time with on known players, arsene wenger has plan, but the big clubs are obstacle to his plan. I am only advcing my fellow fans to be patient with wenger. RVP can go,great players has left arsenal and the club remain contending for the trophy, my advice for RVP is to wait and lift the long awaited trophy, becos he has exercise patient for arsenal. NEXT SEASON IS OUR TUNE TO WIN! WIN! AND WIN!!!..ONE THE FIXTURE IS LITTLE BIT FOVOURABLE , SUNDERLAND, STOKE CITY SOUTHSTOM AND MAN CITY,IF WE CAN WIN ALL THE MATCHES. AND I KNOW IS VERY POSSIBLE,WITH THE HELP OF OUR NEW PLAYERS. WATCHOUT FOR ARSENAL.. Kayode

Of course the two of them are better than one RVP. If only for their mentality. Fresh on the scene, lots to prove, not disgruntled, fed-up, entitled (ie trophies or I am gone).

u know whatssa ironic? van persie spoutin da ambition thingga, well, if he wassa available in 07/08, after Dudu accident thingy, we have wouldda cliamed da 1st spotta.

Both have better conversion rates than rvp. only one of them needs to replace van persie the other is probably replacing walcott. what you have to do is compare our forward line next season with the forward line last season. the forwards used most last season in order rvp walcott gervinho arshavin chamberlain benayoun chamakh. next season its looking likely that as many as 5 of those players might not be here. lets wait and see who is likely to be joining podolski giroud gervinho and chamberlain in the front options next season. rvp? walcott? arshavin? chamakh? park? ryo? bendtner? vela? or more than likely some new signings.

  • Mamo says:

Use Walcott as center forward which he claims to be his preference. Giroud and Podoski supporting him. Arteta, Song, Wilshere and one more strong mid-field to buy… Then strengthen the defense and the trophy is ours next season… More players will score and no dependancy on a single player….

Very few players in the world would be adequate replacements for Van Persie, BASED ON HIS PERFORMANCE LAST SEASON. Note the capitals. What should be realised is this was one season in eight, the first seven being littered with injury. At 29, we have the opportunity to sell him and invest in new blood.
My message to the Arsenal Board is this….DON’T MISS THIS CHANCE.

Piers is a moron, I still we think we need another striker to replace van persie like demba ba or even grant holt, I heard we have been linked with victor moses but he isnt a striker but can score goals,

  • GoonerDave says:

    I dont share the optimism.
Van Persie is the only top quality player we have left. All of our truly world class players have been sold over the years.
Podolski and Giroud would have been fantastic replacements for Arshavin and Chamakh. They are not adequate replacements for the best player in the league last season.
If Robin leaves, we absolutely must replace him with a top striker. Anything else is unacceptable.

  • sebas says:

The question shouldnt be if these two are adequate replacements on the pitch cause they are, the problem is if RVP leaves then who is gonna be the leader if that team.
