‘Podolski and Giroud are NOT adequate replacements for RVP’

|

Another transfer window and another star possibly leaving, something we have become all too familiar with over the years – big stars departing, with no proper ready-made replacements brought in.

But this time I’d say we were better prepared for it. The signing of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud this summer look good enough acquisitions and replacements for want-away striker Robin Van Persie.

A few Gunners out there may say the two new boys aren’t good enough to replace the Dutchman. None more so than celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, who recently tweeted, and I quote:

‘Podolski & Giroud are NOT adequate replacements for @Persie_official – this is another catastrophe. We’re officially a selling club #Arsenal.’

Well I for one disagree with Piers, 100%.

Podolski is a more than capable replacement for Van Persie. Some of you may say that he choked in his time with Bayern Munich and maybe he did, but he is a much better player than he was then and has more experience under his belt. He is a good striker and needs to be given a chance, not written off straightaway.

As for Giroud, we will have to wait and see what he can offer. He’s come from winning the title with Montpellier in Ligue 1, an outcome no one could have predicted at the start of last season. What’s good is that he knows a thing or two about winning against the all the odds. Plus, he’s the kind of striker that can turn a game on its head and, more importantly, the Frenchman is a goal poacher.

I strongly believe Piers will be eating a large slice of humble pie come the end of this present season.

Are Podolski and Giroud adequate replacements for Van Persie?

ye man what you on about. they both earn like 200k a week. benzema and villa won’t take tht big of a pay cut!!

        • OhMyGoonDV says:

Blame the Gunners board…. they pay top players 80k.. and deadwood 50k.

and they like to sell best players for profits so it can pay off Stan’s personal debts.

Wenger Philosophy is ok, but he needs some financial support from Usmanov, and not being told to sell best players every year.

Piers Morgan is a loud-mouthed arsehole.

How the hell he can judge something like that when they hav’nt even played in the team yet is beyond me.

Also RVP, stats-wise wasn’t as great as some seem to think.

RVP could of been a hero, now he’s a zero thanks to his agent.

We dont need to replace a failure, we need those new dimension of players so maybe then we shall win something

I beleive they are, even based on last season. But all previous 7 seasons Rvp as scored about 12 on average which due to his injuries is still resonable . But as far as I no neither Podolski or Giroud have had any major injury problems. So based on an average season of course they will score more than RVB .
I still think we need a good holding midfielder and think we should take a chance on M’Vila as AW could put him on the straight and narrow.

  • tommy says:

Ridiculous. One season VanP can fuck right off. He won’t go two seasons without injury!
Giroud will bag 20+ and make 10 assists.
Podolski will get into double figures.
We need a holding midfielder and a defender. End of.

i truly beliv they are.plus wenger m sure wil change our system 2 accomodate ther strengths.lets js wait til he works sme magic on em.i thnk its bout tym we shipd off most of these players who av bn wth us 4 over five seasons(in da first team).lets rebuild!!coyg!

The thing to always remember with any comment from P Morgan is he is, always has been and always will be an utter knob. Nuff said

  • SFD says:

Giroud and Podolski will be very good signings for us. Unless Arsene is planning on a change of formation (Which I doubt) then you have to think Podolski was signed to play on the left of the front 3. Which means we will probably sign another striker or push Podolski up and sign another player for the left. Exciting times.

Robin leaving would allow us to be less reliant (no pun intended) on one man for the goals and could actually make us more of an attacking threat overall. At the end of the day he’s 29 soon and you always worry about that next big injury. I honestly believe this could turn out to be a good thing…. Hopefully we will sell him to Juve/Barca rather than city though.

I agree I was watching the 08/09 season (should of won title) recently…
    adebayor – Giroud
    RVP – Podolski
    Walcott/eboue- matured and Gervinho
    Nasri – Dempsey
    Denilson – Wilshere/Arteta
Song – Better player now and hopefully Mvila.
One player left out is Cesc. As my next point is Wenger should sign cheap GK and defensive cover IF both Djourou and Squilacci leave. But also Dempsey and Mvila (20 mill)
If RVP is sold. And he should be, ABROAD. I want allllll the money put back into the team and I want a CAM to replace Cesc. Jovetic and Muller seem the best options as they can both play ST.
And muller isn’t day dreaming he kept getting subbed on and off now Schweinsteigers fit, Shaqiri and Mandzukic signed, both play in positions Muller can..
Also feel our first choice back 5 is fine.
Santos, Mertersacker and coquelin good back up. Just need 2 cheap signings for GK and defence then Mvila/ Dempsey and a big signing for AM/CF
