Forget about M’Vila, let’s go for this man instead!

As we all know the off season is full of surprise and a hell of a lot of speculation – who will leave and who will be brought in, this is what every fan out there will be thinking.

One player who was potentially tipped to be in Arsenal colours next season was Rennes’ Yann M’Vila.

Pre Euro 2012 we were hearing reports of the deal being ‘99% done’, with the player supposedly saying he will decide his future after the European Championships. Well it’s been a good two weeks or so now since the tournament concluded and the news on him joining us has all but fizzled out.

So instead of waiting on a player who looks undecided on his future perhaps we should target another defensive midfielder this summer.

But who you say? Non other than Newcastle United’s Cheick Tiote.

The 26-year-old industrious Ivorian has Premier League experience and plays the same role as M’Vila, which would of course make the former a safer option in my opinion. In addition, M’Vila will reportedly be leaving Rennes for around £17 million, and I think if we were to go for Tiote then he wouldn’t be spending no more than £12 million.

Should the M’Vila deal not come to pass then Tiote should be next on Arsene Wenger’s list.

hes a leg breaker not a clean tackler we will suffer in matches from his decision making he’s not worth 20mill either

  • GoonerB says:

Go all out for Javi Martinez. He is the closest thing to a young Vieira out there with a 6’3″ frame, good tackling and ability on the ball. He also has pace and an eye for goal. IMO He will be the best DM out there in the next couple of years and as a bonus he can play centre back so we get extra cover for that position.

Tiote is good n wil equally be gud to replace M’villa wit him.but ma problem is, if we get Tiote, dat means, both our DM wil be africans.dont u tink dat we wil b affectd in an african nations cup year?so i prefare a non african, coupled wit song, may b capoue,m’villa or lucas Biglia.UP GUNNERS.

How about Steven Nzonzi of Blackburn or Fellaini who play’s for Everton?

    • Big-D says:

Steven N’zonzi is defensive midfielder- they’re tasked with protecting the middle of the pitch as a last line before the defence. Blackburn are now relegated. Nuff said.

    • Biden says:

Fellaini would be the best option with the EPL experience if his age is in AW range.Arsenal need a man to cover Song or vice versa and Fellaini is the man.

do not want, man. 1st of all, his black. i mean he has a a strange head and cant tackle for life. we must aim higha, man

  • Blazer says:

I don’t see Tiote fit in to Arsenals play. It would be much wiser and cheaper to have N’zonzy.

    • Big-D says:

Massively over priced. Plus the last thing we need is another defensive player bought from a team that was relegated. At least Mertesacker has a vague excuse cos the German league is different to the English league so there would naturally be a transitional period. N’zonzi on the other hand doesn’t really have that excuse… Frimpong is better than N’zonzi- And he’s free!

I say we forget M’Vila, the guy seems to be worse than van Persie off the field, although that fiery temperment may help him on the field, he seems to be too much of a risk for the price that we’re paying for him.

I would prefer Capoue or Martinez to come in for us this summer as this would give us even more coverage of the centre back and defensive mid positions. Their height would also be an advantage when it comes to defending set pieces and a threat for when we’re attacking at set pieces.

Biglia isn’t that hard tackling defensive midfielder that we need, he’s more of a deep lying playmaker similar to Wilshere and Arteta (Who I want to be freed a bit more from his defensive responsibility and allow him to be more creative and attacking).

Also those Gooners who for some estranged reason seem to think that Victor Moses would be a better option than Theo Walcott don’t have any real reason for preferring him and their only real possible reason is because Walcott hasn’t signed a contract with us yet. Silly.

Tiote is a card magnet and we’ve already go Frimpong.

I don’t think we will see anymore signings n this window…. unless of course RVP leaves (tosser if he does!) think of who is in the squad, wenger isn’t going to ruin the progress of players buy bringing in new ones. Diaby is even training (i know wtf right!?) people chat about DM but we have song arteta, ramsey, wiltsherered , frimpong (injured i know) and diaby. I should say at this point that all those players i know are CM but with the way the team is set up 2 players lie a little deeper ready to cover the one who carries the ball forward and i dont think wenger is keen on the idea of having an out and out DM. Viera wasn’t, he was box to box like all those mentioned above with a parlour, petit and gilberto to cover him when he was venturing forward and vice versa. its a rotation thing. the problem we have is not enough of our players are versatile enough to cover there team mates, its why we look so out of shape when we lose the ball.
