‘Arsenal must think big’

Andre Santos thinks Arsenal must be more ambitious next season, and has urged his team-mates to set their sights on winning both the Champions League and Premier League.

The 29-year-old left-back arrived at The Emirates last summer from Fenerbahce and helped the club finish in third place last season, thus qualifying for the Champions League for the 15th consecutive year.

However, despite Arsene Wenger acquiring yet another year of Champions League football, following a torrid start, the club’s trophy drought, now seven years and counting, continued. It is a drought that the Brazilian is keen to end, and I’m sure all of us want to see this occur as well.

In an in-depth interview with theelastico.com, Santos said:

‘Arsenal is definitely a great club, one of the best in the world. We have got to think about winning titles: English champions, European champions.

‘Those are certainly the objectives for next season. Arsenal must think big… I have had a few targets in my mind: to be English champions and win titles. To make the supporters, who steer us forward and always fill the stadium, happy. Ensure that Arsenal get back to where they belong: at the top.’

These are the type of players I want to see at the club, players who want to get Arsenal back to the top where they belong.

I personally think competing for the Premier league is a must next season; another top four finish target will simply not do for me. We need to get back to challenging for trophies and the Premier League, in my book, is the main priority.

Winning the Champions League is still perhaps out of our reach, but the English title isn’t. We have a good enough squad to be challenging and winning trophies next season and hopefully this comes to fruition. We simply need to end this trophy drought ASAP.

I think we are still short in midfield. We need an anchorman. Too often last season we depend on Alex Song, and he became complacent at times. If we can get M’vila for a good price, we definitely should be a title contender.

People say we have too many midfielders. But lose Aaron Ramsey to the olympic squad, Rosicky & Wilshere to injury and Abou Diaby not lasting 10 minutes on the pitch, and suddenly we have no players.

The Bear agrees with Andre, first set the plan goal for the season then decide who and what is needed to achieve the objective.

    Thinking right!

    Thats the spirit santos …

But I really hate it when our players come out and talk as it always goes the opposite way and end up failing.

Heres hoping he makes good on his words.

I think the champions league is easier to win than the title.

For the last few years , since Henry left, it appears taht when Gunners think big they leave. Van Persie is on his way, Theo is next, then probably Song. When you combine the bonus for Van Persie with the 130 it comes out to about 168 a week , still less then muppett Nasri got to leave for Citeh. Van Persie will probably bring 20-25 million , which will not be re-invested, as the board will say we alrady have Poldi and Giroud, but as I wrote the ramifications of Van Persie leaving will be more severe the Cesc’s because it clearly demonstrates that the club will not really change the wage structure or invest in any established stars. The latter is ok, but look at Gervinho, looks great but cannot find the net, Rosicky the same, Van Persie is a predator in front of the net, and that is something inside. Poor Andre after two or three years he will realize what we know, no ambition here
