In what is set to be this summer’s longest running transfer saga, Andre Santos has voiced his concern over Robin van Persie leaving Arsenal during the summer.

It appears the Brazilian and the in-demand Dutchman have become close friends and, in a recent interview with ESPN Brasil, Santos was asked about Van Persie as a player and person:

The 29-year-old replied:

‘He’s amazing. Besides being a great person, he is also one of my best friends at Arsenal. He is a guy who has given me full support.’

This obviously echoes what many have said at Arsenal and that is that RVP is very highly regarded amongst the players and staff at the club.

The news coming out of Arsenal is pretty much the same on a daily basis and that is that Robin is currently focused on Euro 2012 and nothing will be announced until after the end of the tournament.

The club and player have both agreed to hold talks for now, leaving the media open to potential moves to either Juventus or Man City this summer.

The Arsenal faithful, however, just have to wait and see what happens in the upcoming weeks.

Santos went onto comment about the season past and just how important Van Persie’s influence is on the team:

‘He is very intelligent on the pitch. He smashed the Premier League. He has been at the club eight years and this was his best season. It helped Arsenal get to where we are, in the Champions League spots, and I have no doubt that he will be one of the stars of Euro 2012.

‘He has been at the club eight years and this was his best season.

‘Sometimes, a player is interested in getting to know other teams and of course, playing well, he has attracted interest from many other teams. Of course your mind is affected.

‘He is currently fully focused on the Euros and then, after, he can talk about whether he wants to stay with Arsenal.’

It is one of those saga’s that we as Arsenal fans should be used too, and so far they haven’t worked out good for us in the past, losing both Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and $amir Na$ri to Manchester City only last summer.

But in my opinion this time will be different, and he will eventually decide to stay. However, we have approximately 3-4 weeks until we know more.

Personally, I am going to keep my eye on how Lukas Podolski does during Euro 2012. Let’s hope he nets some goals and produces some great performances.
