Why I’m inclined to agree with Per

|

Per Mertesacker insists Lukas Podolski will shine for Arsenal next season, and I for one am incline to agree with the tall German.

Podolski, who recently sealed a reported £10 million move to Arsenal, has netted 18 goals in 28 Bundesliga appearances for FC Koln, and an impressive 43 in 95 caps for Germany, eight of which came in the last three major tournaments under Joachim Low.

And Mertesacker believes the 26-year-old striker can replicate his goal-scoring form at Arsenal next season:

‘He is very confident. When he feels he has to be there for the team and when we needed a goal he was always there.

‘He was always one of the best players on the pitch and nothing could take him down. He is so confident and that is what I like.

‘He is a fantastic striker. Everywhere he has played he has scored a lot of goals.

‘He is very good on his first left (touch) when he has the ball in front of him, that is a big quality and very good for us.’

Per finished off by stating that the Premier League will be a challenge for Podo, but one he will be able to cope with insists the German Arsenal centre-back:

‘I think he has good physical power and that is what is needed in the Premier League. He is very quick too. It is a challenge for him but he can cope with it.’

Podolski certainly has all the qualities, as well as the technical ability, to shine and succeed at Arsenal. He is the man many Arsenal fans have been waiting for, and I for one believe he will be a massive player for us next season, one which could possibly fire us to a much needed trophy.

To score 18 goals in 28 appearances for a relegated side tells you something, this man means business!

I can’t wait to see this German forward in action and hope he brings his goal-scoring form along with him!

I saw Podolski play while in Germany for 2 years and he was a very powerful attacking midfielder but quite often he started on the wing and roamed across the opponents area from their half line to the penalty area. He has a very powerful left foot shot and can be very tough in the tackle and in the air.
He was the captain for the last 2 years and was an inspired leader even with a very poor team like Koln. What really surprises me is that Shitty or Manure or Barca or Real or PSG didn’t snap him up before AFC….he is a stellar buy and will be reaching his prime years at AFC…another Wenger coup among many!!!

Well let’s welcome him as a winner. But he will need the right playing formula to bring out the best. Unlike Arshavin, Bendtner, Vela and others who have been expected to play out of position (if at all). Wenger has never shown an ability to flex his system according to players available -and opposing team.
