This would be great, but it’s not going to happen

On Wednesday, the Daily Mail claimed ‘Arsenal are lining up a swoop for Swansea’s Michel Vorm’, presumably to challenge current no.1 Wojciech Szczesny for the gloves.

The newspaper also suggested that Arsenal sent scouts to watch the 28-year-old in recent weeks, and with Manuel Almunia’s contract set to expire at the end of the season and Lukas Fabianski’s future in serious doubt, I reckon the Dutch shot-stopper would prove to be a an astute signing by Arsene Wenger, should he pull it off.

Highly-rated youngster Damian Martinez, who is currently on loan at Oxford United, will likely be promoted to the first-team – should Fabianski depart – but may only feature in the minor competitions, leaving Szczesny with no real competition. This is where Vorm comes in.

I for one believe he would make a great signing. He’s agile, has great reflexes and commands his box brilliantly. He has arguably been the Premier League’s best goalkeeper this season.

However it will be difficult for Le Boss to persuade the 6’2’’ keeper to leave Swansea, where he is first-choice, to take the role of Szczesny’s understudy. So for that reason I don’t think this proposed move will ensue.
