Who we should target should the unthinkable happen

The fate of Arsenal captain Robin van Persie will reportedly be decided today, as the 28-year-old enters contract talks with Arsene Wenger.

This season the Dutchman was flying with 37 goals to his name, 30 in the Premier League. Obviously everyone involved with Arsenal wants RVP to renew his contract, but should he leave this is my emergency transfer plan this summer:

Giuseppe Rossi

Much like Van Persie, Rossi is rather injury-prone. But again, like Van Persie, the Italian is worth taking the risk. In his 192 appearances for Villarreal, Rossi has scored 82 goals. His most impressive goal-scoring form came in the 2010/11 season when he banged in 32 goals and claimed 10 assists. The Italian international will be available for a knockdown price for two reasons, 1) Villarreal have to sell him because they are in a desperate financial position, especially since their relegation from La Liga was confirmed at the weekend. And 2) last month the Villarreal striker tore his anterior cruciate ligament, ruling him out for at least another eight months, which would see his value drop. But a player of his quality is worth the wait especially when he could cost as little as £10 million.

Olivier Giroud

Of course I do appreciate that waiting eight months for someone to replace our best player is football suicide. So if not Rossi, I would recommend the signing of Ligue 1’s joint top-scorer this season, Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman has scored 25 goals in all competitions this season and has also eight assists to his name. Moreover, he scored his first goal for his country last February. Should Van Persie leave Arsenal there is a high chance he could move to the Emirates, as Wenger was contemplating a move for the 25-year-old if the Lukas Podolski deal had fallen through.

So there is my plan for Arsenal’s strike force should Van Persie leave, thank you for reading.

Leandro Damiao would be my first choice. He is simply a goal machine. Big, strong and quick. Plenty of skill and seems like he can’t stop scoring. Ronaldo (Brazlian) said recently that Damiao was the striker to take over his mantle. I would sign him to play along side Van P. If Van P does go then i would also hope Falcao would be on the list of replacements.

Lewandowski, falcoa, cavani, higuain, soldado, llorente, David villa are all suitable but we wont loose him van Persie is a true gunner he is just holding out to make sure we spend on players who have the ability to add to the squad which will bring us silver wear

I can’t see Rossi leading the line against English opposition. He doesn’t have the size and strength to deal with the type of defenders. He’s always been a deeper striker that plays behind a more aggressive one.

Giroud would be my first choice as he’s alot like RVP. Secnod choice would be higuain as I’ve heard he could be persuaded to leave Madrid. Third would be Llorente. With Prince Poldi supporting and being able to be mobile, Llorente’s size and typical target man build would harken back to the Adebyor days and I won’t lie we’ve missed a striker like Ade. Yes we all hate him but his penalty box presence nets him alot of goals.

If he goes would like to see Cavani, Huntelaar Villa Falcao or Higuain. This guy Giroud is not good enough by a long way, don’t forget Park and Chamakh both looked quality in France.

  • Kevin says:

Can you honestly see Wenger buying anyone of any quality if RVP goes???

No it will be a case of “we have Chamakh,Park,Afobe,Podolski and Walcott who can play there so we have no need to buy any more” now isn’t that more like what Wenger would say/do??

  • Scott (USA) says:

I would look at Higuain or Benzema. Huntelaar is a not bad. He scores goals and that’s what it’s all about.

  • henry says:

    Demba ba

  • Ik says:

If we do lose RVP, I think we should go for Radamael Falcao with all we have got. He is a tested goal scorer and will most likely do as well as RVP.

  • Jon p says:

Park is not good enough i would go for either tim cahil or jelavic from Everton or kevin Davis from Bolton

  • Ernest says:

    Fernando Llorente or Radamel Falcao.
