He ‘loves’ the club, but will he be representing it next season?

He’s yet to sign a new deal with us. He has been the subject of much speculation and rumored to be on Premier League and Seire A champions Manchester City and Juventus’ radar after his stunning season in which he scored 30 league goals. Robin van Persie has simply been spectacular. Not even the most bias opposition supporter would disagree.

But he’s getting on in years. He may want to go to a club that is showing signs of future success, and when asked if he would stay or leave following Arsenal’s 3-2 win over West Brom on Sunday, the 28-year-old Dutchman replied:

‘You never know. Arsenal is a massive club, a great club.

‘I have been playing here for eight years and I love this club.

‘Whatever happens that will never change.

‘We’ll sit down next week.’

Arsene Wenger like the rest of us will be hoping he signs on after we managed to secure Champions League football in very dramatic yet somewhat hilarious circumstances. Champions league football will obviously be the catalyst when the deal is being negotiated.

Wenger said:

‘Will Champions League football help to keep Van Persie?

‘It makes it easier to attract good players and keep them.

‘The intention is to speak with him before he leaves for the Dutch camp (for Euro 2012).’

Reports suggest talks between Van Persie and parties involved will be held sometime today.

Yes Champions League football may help him reconsider, but if the board don’t show signs of buying ready-made players and keep raking in youngsters, I see him walking away from us.

We’ve done well in snapping up Lukas Podolski. A few more players in and around his age, and of his quality being guaranteed to come in, will surely make RVP put pen to paper without any hesitation.

If we can assure him that we plan to add value, show signs of actual progression towards future success, then I see him playing for us next season in our new kit, which seems to sport the Holland flag on its sleeves. Glad to see Nike are playing their part.

Is everyone blind…. AND STUPID??? Van Persie is definetly going. Podolski is his replacement as he is very similar to him. How obvious is it???
Why would wenger change now? He ALWAYS sells his best players and replaces them with players of lesser quality.
I will even tell you where he will go (DRUMROLL) …………………………………………………………..BARCELONA.
He wont go to Man city or REAL MADRID. Just make sure you get as much as you can arsene… i am getting tired of barca getting our best players on the cheap!!!

We surely must all be blind and stupid, Danny, and clearly none of us have your remarkable gifts of perception, telepathy and clairvoyance. You are a most gifted person.

It may not be such a bad thing if we do sell him. Chances are he will be injured at the Euros through playing too much football this season and will hardly feature next year anyway. Should we get the money now instead of risking him taking up a space in the squad next season from the physio room?

THANK YOU SHOOY. I appreciate your words greatfully. It is a terrible burden having this gift. I wonder if i could make money from it.

Who knows what will happen. I can understand the cynics feeling it will be the same as it has for the last few years, especially as AW has said much the same things he’s saying about RVP this year as he did about Nasri last year and that he wasnt going anywhere. It does feel a bit like Deja vous and I tyake what AW and Arsenal say about the transfer market with a pinch of salt. I hope they stick to their guns this time and keep RVP even if he wants to go but I guess money will talk first and football second. At the very least, whether RVP goes or not, i hope we buy some quality players and get rid of some of the fringe players that either spend most of the season in the treatment room or aren’t good enough (Djourou, Squillaci, Bentdner, Denilson). And surely the close call for qualifying for CL this year must wake up those suits on the board that are only worried about profit and loss?

Without seeming to be dogmatic I believe Podolski`s early signing was intended to avoid a similar situation to last summer and put Wenger in a better bartering position. RVP now knows Arsenal`s intentions so the ball is in his court.
Should he get injured during the Euros he may wish he had signed when given the chance.
