Why we would be foolish to splash €18M on this Marseille forward

Andre Ayew has been linked with a move to The Emirates and as a result, Ligue 1 side Marseille have finally come out and named their price – €18 million is what Italian publication Calciomercato reckons it will take to prise the Ghanaian away from the French outfit this summer.

Arsene Wenger has spoken highly of Ayew in recent times, and in return the 22-year-old praised the Frenchman:

‘Wenger is a great coach who has won titles with a very good club. He has done great things and has helped nurture good players.

‘Taking that into consideration, those words please me and make me want to work even harder.’

He finished off by saying:

‘I am still very young, I have a lot of steps to take.’

€18 million for Ayew? I haven’t had a good laugh in quite a while, but I must admit this did the trick.

I know transfer fees for some players can get and are over exaggerated at times, and this one falls in that category. He’s still young and a very talented player, one who can cause defences problems but, more importantly, still has a lot to learn, and for €18 million (£14.8 million) let someone else come in and sign him. To make matters worse, if other clubs come in that figure will rise. It could very well reach about €26 million if the likes of PSG decide to poke their noses in.

Best solution for us is to go out and find a cheaper solution. We managed to find and bag Gervinho for about £11 million and look how good he is (though he does need to improve on his finishing). With that in mind let’s go out shopping for players who we won’t regret spending very large sums on.

If he was a year or two older, €18million would be a very reasonable sum, but for now it is just too much.

‘Look how good Gervinho is’- Really???? Seriously?????

Madrid is looking to offload Gonzalo Higuain and I’m sure Wenger could persuade Giroud to come join us. That 15M would be far better spent on either of these two who have shown their ability to score goals at will. Ayew might be good in the future or he might just slightly above Ligue 1 average but he hasn’t done very much to merit him being bought for 15M.

Personally I don’t think Ayew is 18 million in any curency, though at 10 million he might be worth a punt. As for Gervinho the jury’s still out, what with it being his first season in the Prem, however from what I have seen thus far, I’m not convinced at all. No end-product in terms of his crossing, and terrible finishing. When I seen him live he looks very skinny and weak.

Get him. He is a sharp footballer. He is similar to Nasri in skill. Ive wanted him to come the gunners for a few years. If we dont get him thewn Manchest United will get him. A very sensible player.

diaby should go so should arshavin and chamakh squilachi djurou park almunia i think we should keep bendtener cse we cant always play bendtner but i really want to see carlos vela play ive always liked how he plays and with all of these players who just arnt good enough to play for arsenal have to go we have to think about rebuilding our squad and that has to start by letting our crappy players go we can buy some good and decent bench players and then get a decent left back plse we need tht i wld be happy if verthogen joined

I think ayew is a very good footballer who will continue to improve. He has the pedigree, his father is of course abedi pele, a marseille legend but i agree with you that 18mil is too much for him at this time. He reminds of nasri and with a coach like wenger, he could become a very dependable player in a few years. In fact i personally thought we should’ve got him instead of gervinho but i’m not manager so what do i know. I just have a sneaking suspicion that in a few years, we won’t be able to afford him.

Its amazing how players are overrated nowadays, the ayew one just tops that, what about giroud! £50 milli??, are u serious??…i prefer we ge cheap talent such as the ox and ryo.

Let us be clear! Signing any of the Ayews would be like Liverpool’s signing of Carroll! The Ayews have a father who could play footie a bit, but I don’t rate the father’s offspring!
