A display for all to be proud of and another entry into the Arsenal season review, entitled, ‘Great Comebacks – How to keep the fans on the edge of oblivion’.

Arsene Wenger called for ‘the impossible to be made possible’ and very nearly pulled it off.

The first half showed the ability and fight that the team has, and bodes well for the battle to catch the Spuds which lies ahead of us.

‘Little Mozart’ showed why Wenger has kept faith in him, while others doubted and called for him to be discarded. I suppose we forget that he has spent much of the last few seasons injured and in the shadow of Cesc. Also, Ox showed his ability in centre midfield and that he has already passed Theo in his development.

Eventually the effort took its toll and we ran out of puff. That, along with Milan finally parking the bus in the second half, meant that the extra two goals required were just beyond our grasp and 3-0 was the extent of our endeavours.

Unfortunately our injury tally crept up and haunted us again. With Theo and Ox both picking up knocks in the second half and with a bench decimated by injuries, we had to resort to the combined talents of Park and Chamakh to find the illusive goals. Obviously, these enforced changes didn’t come to fruition and the half time score remained.

This, again, brings me to the ‘Curious Case of Andrey Arshavin’. Given the choice, who would you like to see coming of the bench to work his magic and inspire the team onwards to victory. I know who I’d choose!!!

Following the game, Thomas Vermaelen, spoke to the gathered media about the task that lies ahead:

‘It’s really important because Arsenal is a team that belongs in the Champions League.

‘We will try to achieve that in the next games and get into the top four. At the moment, after the way we played in the first half against Milan, I am really confident. It’s hard to be consistent in top-level football. The team that is the most consistent will win prizes, I believe in that.

‘But we have to be confident that we have the quality in the team and that is what we showed against Milan. The way we played in the first half, if we can do that consistently all season I am not worried because we will be in the top four. Of course we are disappointed because we are out of the Champions League but we need to take the great feeling out of this game, and take that into the next game.’

As TV5 says, the most consistent will win prizes.

The challenge we need to accept: the final 33 points

The Target we need to achieve: third place

The Prize we need to claim: St. Totteringham Day
