Gunners set to sign German star for £10.9M

|

FC Koln last night accepted a reported £10.9 million bid from Arsenal for striker Lukas Podolski, according to Bild.

Several tabloids are suggesting that the 26-year-old has been offered a four-year deal worth £100,000-a-week and will seal his switch to The Emirates in the upcoming summer.

Having turned down an initial bid of £8 million, in hope of recouping a much larger fee, the Bundesliga outfit have apparently accepted the Gunners latest offer for their prized asset.

Per Mertesacker yesterday revealed he and the German international have been in contact over the past several weeks, with Podolski quizzing the Arsenal defender about life in north London.

However, despite Bild suggesting that a deal has already been struck, Arsenal have yet to come out and break the news to its faithful.

A source told ESPNsoccernet:

‘The deal is very close. It would be premature to say that it has been agreed, but discussions are ongoing and it won’t be long now.’

I’m guessing the Gunners are trying to keep the deal as low key as possible, especially at this stage of the season. If they are then they’re doing a pretty lousy job of it.

In any case, until I see some real confirmation from Arsenal FC then I won’t believe it!
