Should Arsenal make a move for this want-away Dortmund forward?

Reports coming out of Germany suggest unsettled Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios is eager to move away from the Bundesliga champions after enduring a tougher season than the previous one.

Last season the 27-year-old was on fire, scoring 16 goals in 32 games and helping Dortmund win the Bundesliga. However, this season the Paraguayan striker has struggled to find his form and games, netting just the one goal in 15 games so far.

The news has put both Manchester City and Arsenal on alert and the Premier League duo will be watching how the situation transpires from now until the end of the season.

In all fairness, I am not sure why City would be interested in yet ANOTHER striker, but I guess it wouldn’t be a transfer rumour without their involvement.

The Paraguay international, who is contracted to Dortmund until 2015, recently told German publication Bild:

‘Of course I do not want to sit on the bench for a second season. That is not what being a professional footballer is about.

‘I’m unhappy, but I’m waiting for my chance as a professional. It is difficult on the other hand for me to accept this after such a successful season.’

Now it could just be a blip, but the thought of signing someone on the back of a hard season can often go two ways. It either takes them time to get their confidence back, or they come into a new club all guns blazing wanting to prove they are worth the opportunity.

As such it is really difficult to decide if Arsenal should make a move for the Dortmund striker. I feel if Marouane Chamakh leave this summer, then Barrios would be a good replacement, but we are reportedly being linked with a number of other players. Although Barrios looks like a good forward, my personal preference to come into Arsenal this season would be Lukas Podolski. He’s 26 and has impressed at club and international level this season, scoring 15 in 19 and 43 in 95 respectively.

I reckon we should keep a close eye and monitor Barrios’ situation at Dortmund. However, we shouldn’t take our eyes off the bigger deals this summer, which a majority of the Arsenal faithful are looking forward to.

No. With podolski apparently on his way and in my view we should sign giroud & hazard 1st. We don’t need him. Afobe needs to play also
