Liverpool v Arsenal – Match preview

Arsenal will be looking to build on their 5-2 victory over Spurs last Sunday as they face Carling Cup winners Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow afternoon.

Kenny Daglish’s side have only managed to pick up just five points in their last five Premier League outings, scoring seven goals whilst conceding three.

Although Liverpool’s domestic form isn’t particular eye-catching, their recent Carling Cup final triumph at Wembely, where they beat Championship side Cardiff on penalties, would’ve undoubtedly boosted their morale and hope of bagging a result at home against fourth placed Arsenal tomorrow afternoon.

On the flipside, the Gunners just mauled Spurs at The Emirates and will believe that they can catch and nip third place from their north London rivals come the end of the season.

In their last five Premier League matches, Arsene Wenger’s side have racked up 10 points out of a possible 15, netting 16 goals (12 in 180 minutes) and conceded six.

Captain Steven Gerrard remains a doubt for the game after the robust midfielder tweaked a hamstring during England’s friendly against Holland on Wednesday.

Glen Johnson is expected to be fit for selection after withdrawing from the England squad as a precaution, while Daniel Agger could be out for a few weeks with a rib injury.

Jamie Carragher looks likely to replace the Danish centre-back.

Key player: Luis Suarez

The Uruguayan has scored six goals in 18 appearances for Liverpool this season, which is not a bad goal-to-game ratio. However, the 25-year-old has the technical ability, dribbling skills and pace to disrupt any defence in the world and must be dealt with.

Likely line-up:

Reina

Johnson          Carragher          Skrtel          Enrique

Kuyt          Spearing          Adam          Bellamy

Suarez

Carroll

NOTE: If Gerrard is available then he will take Spearing’s position.
