Wenger eyes up Ukrainian star

|

The Daily Mail reckons Arsene Wenger is weighing up a summer bid for Dynamo Kiew striker Andriy Yarmolenko.

The Frenchman is supposedly on the look out for a forward this summer in order to bolster his frontline ahead of next season and with Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu-Young’s futures at the club in serious doubt, Wenger sees the 22-year-old, who is reportedly being chased by Shakthar Donetsk and Napoli, as an ideal candidate.

Yarmolenko is a pupil of the Kyiv youth system and is known for his shooting and technical ability, as well as his pace and dynamic speed.

In 2006 – when he signed for Dynamo – the then-vice-president of the Ukrainian outfit, Yozhef Sabo, said of the 6’1’’ striker:

‘[Yarmolenko] has all the makings to become a top-lever player.’

The St. Petersburg-born youngster is regularly used as striker but can also be utilized as a left winger if needed.

Yarmolenko has been capped 18 times for Ukraine, netting seven goals for his country since breaking into the senior team in 2009, and has scored 11 goals in 19 league games for Dynamo so far this season.
