Arsene Wenger firmly believes Robin van Persie is settled at Arsenal, despite speculation over his future at the north London club.

The Holland international has been exceptional form for the Gunners this season, netting 25 goals in 27 Premier League games, and as such is attracting the attentions of some of Europe’s top clubs.

AC Milan have recently been linked with the 28-year-old, while Manchester City’s Roberto Mancini admitted earlier in the week that he’s a big fan of the in-demand striker and will look to make a move for him when the transfer window re-opens.

Van Persie is out of contract next summer and Wenger, as well as every Arsenal fan out there, will be hoping that the Dutchman signs an extension to his existing deal rather than follow in the footsteps of former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, who both left for Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.

However, despite Van Persie yet to agree a new deal at The Emirates, Wenger remains adamant that the former Feyenoord forward is happy at the club and hopes he will not be distracted by comments made by Mancini or any other manager who are reportedly chasing him.

Wenger was quoted on talkSPORT.com saying:

‘I cannot stop that (other managers talking), but in an ideal world. But it doesn‘t bother me too much. Robin is the leader of our club and I would like to specify he is not at the end of his contract.

‘The key is to focus on your job which he does very well and enjoy your games. Nothing is unsettling. At our level we are professional people.

‘I believe if you are to have one quality it is not to be unsettled because what is said of you by other clubs is part of the job.’
