Ex-Gunner Martin Keown has heaped praise on Tomas Rosicky’s performance in the north London derby yesterday afternoon, claiming it was the ‘best’ he’s seen from the 31-year-old in an Arsenal shirt.

The Gunners stormed back from two goals down to beat Tottenham 5-2 and close the gap on their local rivals to just 7 points, with 12 games left to play.

But Keown, who won 7 major trophies during his time at the north London club, believes it was Rosicky’s ‘all-action’ performance that inspired an Arsenal comeback.

The 45-year-old former centre-back said:

‘That is the best I have seen Tomas Rosicky play for Arsenal. He’s been a spectator this season until now but he played with so much drive and purpose.’

He added:

‘For his goal he made a run he would never have normally, darting into the box. He looked to play decisive passes, was tenacious in the tackle and looked like the player Arsenal signed in 2006. An all-action performance.’

I have to admit; the Czech international really impressed me yesterday, and showed what he is truly capable when on song.

Everything that Keown stated about Rosicky’s performance is 100% accurate – his passing was precise; he was good in the tackle, made some great runs forward and did look like the player we signed 6 years ago.

Personally, I felt Mikel Arteta was Man of The Match, but after watching the game over, I actually think Rosicky played a blinder and deserved this match award.

I for one really hope that he signs a new deal at the club, as his creativity and tenacious play are needed.

In any case, I truly hope Rosicky, as well as the rest of the team, uses this result to build on and push forward in their quest to finish above Spurs, which I believe is highly likely.

  • Don’t you remember the midfield consisting of Hleb, Fabregas, Flamini, Rosicky? He was in his best form for Arsenal back then…But he is pretty close to it now. The thing is, he is a playmaker, more then capable of Fabregas’s like passes… the winger posistion is really not his favourite one, yet Wenger has been playing him there in almost every single game he has played for Arsenal…shame.

Rosicky’s performances for most of this season have shown a new lease of life and whatever he is taking should be bottled and sold at a premium.
I only hope a contract extension is in the offing.

Rosicky was outstanding yesterday. Keown clearly hasn’t been concentrating if he thinks that Thomas
has been a spectator this season…he’s put in several good shifts, but often been let down by those around him.

Nah, Rosicky played like that all the time before he had those operations on his knee tendons.
