So yesterday Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Robin van Persie would be ‘excited’ to play for Real Madrid and, like a proper muppet, I chose to write up an article explaining this false story.
Marca had quoted the 28-year-old as saying:
‘I like to know the interest of such an important club like Real Madrid. Of course I’m excited to play there.
‘I do not think Arsenal agree to negotiate.’
However, Van Persie recently denied saying anything about being interested in playing for Real or wanting to hear from the Spanish giants to Marca.
The Dutch striker, whose current contract with Arsenal expires in June 2013, has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer, with Manchester City, Inter Milan and Barcelona all thought to be interested in his services.
After reading the quotes he supposedly gave to the Spanish newspaper, RVP said on his Twitter account last night:
‘Contrary to reports in Spain I have NEVER spoken to Marca newspaper and never gave any interview. Enjoy your day.’
Although I never believed these erroneous claims in the first place, I’m just glad Robin quickly came out and put these rumours to rest.
