Fiorentina playmaker and reported Arsenal target Riccardo Montolivo is on the verge of signing for AC Milan, according to talkSPORT.

The 27-year-old midfielder is highly expected to leave Fiorentina in the summer after failing to agree a new deal at the Florence club, and Arsenal, as well as Manchester United, have both previously been linked with the Italian international.

Montolivo has been with Fiorentina for almost seven years, where he has made over 230 appearances for the Italian club, and has arguably been one of their star performers during this period.

Arsene Wenger is still yet to fill the holes left by Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, who both left in the summer, and the Frenchman appears to have identified the former Atalanta maestro as a potential replacement.

However, according to Florence-based radio station Lady Radio, Montolivo has reached an agreement with Milan and is set to sign a four-year deal with the San Siro outfit.

Well if this proves to be true and Montolivo has in fact agreed a pre-contract agreement with AC, then it looks like we’ve once again missed out on a really good player, one which bags experience, is technically very gifted and essentially could have added the creativity that we’re lacking in our midfield on a free!

Let’s hope Wenger has something up his sleeve this summer! Signing a playmaker is a must!

What player would come to a club that can no longer offer champions league?? Answer – not the top ones.

Someone’s sh*t his pants right now.
If I were Montolivo, I’d also be loath to move away from Italy. They’ve a fine climate there, and Milan pays enough to make do. That’s a no brainer, there aren’t so many Italian players who actually move away from their homeland just before 30.
Plus, I don’t know whose idea this was, but Montolivo isn’t the answer to that question.
