Is this Arsenal midfielder having a laugh?

I’m sorry to all you optimistic Arsenal fans out there, but I couldn’t help but laugh out loud when I read Mikel Arteta’s recent claim!

The 30-year-old Spaniard, who moved to Arsenal from Everton in a £10 million deal in the summer, believes the Gunners still have a shot at qualifying to the next phase of the Champions League despite being battered 4-0 by AC Milan last night.

The midfielder was quoted on talkSPORT.com today saying:

‘Never say never in football.’

He added:

‘If we score two goals in the first half at the Emirates then it is game on. After last night, it will be very difficult to get through and we all know that.’

Sorry Mikel, but the only thing we will be playing for in three weeks time at the Emirates is pride, nothing else.

I commend Arteta’s attitude and fighting spirit because that’s what we need at this time, but a four goal lead is just too big a gap to close against one of the biggest clubs in Europe who acquire one of the best back four in the world. In addition to scoring the goals, we have to make sure we don’t concede any as well, which looks highly unlikely given the potent attack the Rossoneri possess.

Even Arsene Wenger reckons we’re out of the competition, claiming we have about a two to five percent chance of progressing to the next round:

‘Let’s be realistic, we don’t play in dream world, maybe there is a two percent or five percent chance statistically, realistically we are out of this competition.’

From a realistic Gooner, let’s just concentrate on the FA Cup and securing fourth spot because the Champions League is well out of our reach!

its simple, we are out bt u never know 2 goals 4rm open play nd 2 penalties can take us to extra time and maybe just maybe penalties to decide d game. Like i said u never know.

If he stated that Arsenal stand no chance then you’d publish an article questioning his heart and belief in the club. No need for articles such as this and starting to think reading blogs is a serious waste of time.

Some dicks will always be negative. It will be tight but it is achievable, it is our home ground and we need to have a good start, get some early goals and we in it. But Ox needs to start along with Gervinho so we can attack with skill an pace. Let’s hope Koselny is available, not sure of extent o his injury. By then Gibbs should be fine s well.

let all the players who have the belief play in that 2nd leg. Wenger should leave out Walcott and Ramsey in that match though. These guys have already reached their ambition which is to just play for a big club thats it. Almost a season has gone and neither of the two can put 2-3 good games together in a row, that is just appauling and their statistics are not good enough for a team fighting to stay in the top flight. It’s because Wenger doesn’t punish them by leaving them out that they can get away with such dismal display.

Wenger must begin to field his strongest side. I think it’s time to move 3.2.4.2 for the rest of the season. Henry impact shows just what we have been lacking. a stinger who will bury

    ——-Fabianski
    Sagna —Vermerleen—-Gibbs
    Conquelin/Benayuan – Arteta
    OX, Rosicky, Song, Gerviho
    —Walcott – Van Persie

It time for some competition for Snezzy. he needs to get back to the best. Our backline has lots of communication mistakes. maaybe 4 is crowded. Deep in midfieild, Coquelin and Arteta. OX and Gervinho play in the wings. Time to give Walcott his shot at the central forward and partners RVP.

is he supposed to say, “ya i think we’re done for”. pointless article. truly pointless.

  • Aussie Jack says:

Concentrate on making the top four to hell with the rest. Wenger, make up your shopping list for the summer. Board of directors be prepared to spend. Deadwood pack your bags. Pat retire gracefully.

  • EMERY says:

The players are all confuse they play one style of game every day, they do not know how to lift their game when they are down you don’t romance football all the time, instead you go for goals. i pity this club because they have nothing to offer.

  • fazza says:

If liverpool can come back from 3 goals down to score 3 in the 2nd half against milan in the final. Why can’t we score 4 or even more over 90 minutes?
    Keep the faith!!!

  • Naz says:

If he said we are out, you lot would say he has no passion blah blah…can’t win…
