Arsenal are jealous of City, says Corrigan

Well it’s been a pretty weird couple of days with the transfer window and Ivan Gazidis saying that Man City are jealous of Arsenal.

We were kind of hoping that at 11pm on Tuesday night normality will be resumed and common sense would sweep its way across the Premier League. Sadly it appears to have fallen short of Man City, who have decided to respond with ‘Arsenal are in fact Jealous of City’. To be honest, both Joe Corrigan and Ivan Gazidis need a slap around the ear and to be told to zip it.

Corrigan recently stated:

‘I think it’s the opposite way round. Everybody in the Premier League has got this little bit of jealousy that Man City can go out and spend this money. Everybody is saying they are buying their way to the top but it is a difficult proposition for a manager because you are buying all these superstars and trying to gel them all together.’

So in true Gunnersphere style we are going to take a look at Arsenal and Man City’s expenditure since the 2008/09 season. (Arsenal figures are in red).

2008/09 season

Outgoing – £121.85 million – £15.75 million

Incoming – £8.8 million – £19.3 million

Trophies won – 0

2009/10 season

Outgoing – £160.21 million – £10 million

Incoming – £19.5 million – £41 million

Trophies won – 0

2010/11 season

Outgoing – £77 million – £14.5 million

Incoming – £10.75 million – £7.7 million

Trophies Won – one for City

2011/12 season

Outgoing – £51 million – £54.23 million

Incoming – £15.86 million – £67.83 million

Trophies won – ?

So in the space of four years Man City have spent an incredible £410,060,000 on players and received an income of £54,910,000 and in doing so have secured one FA Cup. Whilst Arsenal have in the same amount of time spent just £94,480,000, with a player income of £135,830,000.

Now are Arsenal jealous of that one FA Cup trophy? In my opinion, since it has come at a price of £314,900,000, I would say NO CHANCE!

In the same four year period Arsenal made a profit of £41,350,000.

So Mr. Joe Corrigan perhaps you think that Arsenal are Jealous of City, but taking a look at what your former club has actually achieved in the last four years, I really would like to see you backup your claims that we are in fact envious of you guys. In my response to your claims, all I can say is that I welcome the financial fair play regulations coming into affect very soon.

Corrigan is right. Thanks to Wenger the gunners have gone on the downhill since 2005.This reminds me of the fox who lost his tail.
I believe Wenger has wasted a lot of time and he would have been fired at any big team.
This could be his final season if the gunners continue to misfire.Time for a change.

Joe you big bully, leave poor little Ivan alone. This article is more pathetic than anything Gazidis or Corrigan said.

  • Melon Man says:

At least Arsenal are not winning trophies in the right way 🙂

Surely the point of spending all the Sheikh’s money was to build a team to compete for silverware – which City undeniably are, see current league table.

Arsenal are not competing in the league, and not looking like winning anything realistically this season again, so who is right and who is wrong? (big Joe Corrigan for my money).

Trophy less Arsenal, thats all i can say, lets see where Asenal are in the next 3 years relying on youth

I don’t want to get into this unnecessary confrontation between the envy n jealous of both clubs.

Man C and ourselves have a similar problem – managers. They have the fire power, but unable to deliver when it matters. {Not a leader of men} We have a manager who is forward thinking, good coach but where his weakness rests, he would not bring in the right support in terms of a tactician and decent assistant coach that could think on his feet.

  • Charlie says:

Corrigan is making much more sense than that idiot Gazidis. Most Arsenal fans would much rather be at the top of the league while out of the CL and FA Cup but with someone like Usmanov putting his personal wealth into the club. I know I would and i’ve been an Arsenal fan for 30 years.

  • Blue5 says:

“Sadly it appears to have fallen short of Man City, who have decided to respond with ‘Arsenal are in fact Jealous of City’.”
Come off it! Joe Corrigan hasn’t worked for Manchester City since the 1980s. After 10 years at Liverpool, he’s since coached around the lower leagues, retired, come back again, but at no point has he re-joined his old club City. His comments being represented as the views of Manchester City is laughable.

    • LGHU says:

Erm, I think you’ll find that he is cuurently employed at City in an ambassadorial roll actually

      • Blue5 says:

Oh, come on, he’s part of a large group of ex-players who sometimes appear on the corporate hospitality list at City. Suggesting that his views represent the club’s is like saying Charlie Nicholas is press spokesman for Arsenal when he’s talking to Jeff Stelling. Lets have some realism here please.

  • arsenal froever says:

Hmm i see it where its going if arsene remains intact and we contibue to belive in our unprecedented self-sustained model

    to: Iain Culverhouse

Poor little lamb, do you REALLY think financial fairplay is going to make 1 jot of difference?

It’s pretty simple – If Uefa dare to enforce it the the big boys will start their own breakaway competition. Just wait.
