Angry Gooners plan black bin-bag protest

A group of disgruntled Arsenal fans plan a rather bizarre bin-bag protest at the Emirates tomorrow afternoon.

The Daily Mirror reports that one supporters’ group will urge fellow Gooners at tomorrow’s game against struggling Blackburn to pull black bin-bags over any red empty seats around the Emirates Stadium to highlight to the club’s board and management of falling attendances.

The fans have seen their side slip down to seventh in the Premier League after managing to take just one point from 12 in their last four games. It’s believed that there have been a number of calls – via Twitter and Facebook – for the bin-bag protest to go ahead, plus chants of ‘we want our money back’ to be sung during the game.

Following their poor run of results, especially their 0-0 draw against lowly Bolton on Wednesday night, Arsene Wenger has since faced a bombardment of abuse from a lot of Arsenal fans via Twitter, while the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust demanded that the board and majority shareholder Stan Kroenke to connect more with the fans after another poor showing in the January transfer window.

Although many Gooners want to protest and vent their frustrations at the club and its management, Keith Meadows, a member of the Where Has Our Arsenal Gone and Black Scarf Movement, says his group will firmly stand by and support Wenger and the team. However, he too questions the direction of the club:

‘What was the point in six per cent price rises last summer if the club do not want to spend? We will always support the team and Wenger deserves respect and to be treated with dignity after everything he’s done for the club.

‘If Robin van Persie signs [a new contract], then great. But I don’t know many people who would blame him if he did go in the summer because is the club going to buy players to rebuild the team again?

‘It’s not the players’ fault. It’s not even their fault if some of them are not necessarily good enough. But we would like answers from the board.’

I would love to know if any Gooners reading this will be taking part in this proposed protest tomorrow afternoon.

What a waste bin-bags!

Why? It really does strike me that this is all going to make us a bit of a laughing stock! Whereas I totally appreciate that people may be disgruntled there must be a better way of showing it than this? Who came up with it? “Grrr I’m so mad that when I next go to a match I’m gonna…. I’m gonna…. I’m gonna put a bin bag over the seat next to me!!!! That’ll teach’em!”

This just isn’t the time for this kind of crap, its just not the time. The transfer window is closed, and nothing else will happen until the end of the season. Some people are frustrated but frankly there’s nothing constructive about these protests. We need to get behind the team and push them on to atleast a top four 4 finish. Some people may not be happy with that (and I’m not particularly pleased either) but you don’t need to make a s*** atmosphere and pull our players down. Just get behind the team til the end of the season then do whatever you want for all I care. Why do gooners want to sabotage their own team. I understand their frustration and I’m not protesting their protest, but the timing of it is completely wrong. They want to highlight the amount of empty seats, all they’re going to do is kill the atmosphere, the players aren’t going to want to see black spots among the support. Just get real people, this is not the time for this s***. Lets just try to push our team on to a topf four finish and hopefully the FA cup as well. Then vent your frustrations if you feel the need. Please gooners, I don’t want to silence you, I just want to give our time the greatest possible chances of finishing well. COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!

@ g clark wats ur problem….just sit in corner and think if arsenal is going in right direction….toothless attack…one guy runs like a headless chicken and whines all the time…playmaker with no creativity ….we play like a mid table team…we lost our style. We all know Wenger is top level manager. something is wrong with the board maybe…if wenger is protecting them ,then we shd blame him…..

  • jay says:

Waste of time and effort ,the thick skinned morons that run our club will nopt be moved by such a protest.judgement day will come at the end of the season when it is timer to renew season tickets in time of a recession

  • UMOH EKWO says:

This is a fantastic idea. I can’t wait for this to happen. As long as the board and management of Arsenal Football Club value their profit more than the development of the club and neglect the feelings of the fans, something has to be done to show our resentment to their policies.
