It seems Arsene Wenger is looking towards the near future when it comes to new recruits, as talkSPORT claims the Gunners have made preliminary moves to sign Racing Club de Avellaneda’ Claudio Yacob, and could sign the Argentine on a free in the summer.

At the end of last week an alleged enquiry was made by Arsenal over the availability of the 24-year-old defensive midfielder, as Wenger looks to recruit on the cheap to bolster his squad.

Yacob’s current deal with the Primera Division Argentina outfit expires in June and Racing Club could be willing to offload their high-earning skipper in order to reduce their wage bill.

He has made 16 appearances for Racing Club already this season, scoring one goal along the way.

Yacob was part of the Argentina Under-20 World Cup winning squad back in 2007, but has since made just three appearances for the full national side. He also holds an Italian passport which could aid any bids for a work permit.

To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if this deal goes through – it’s a typical Wenger buy isn’t it.

Wenger still seems focussed on the future when the immediate needs of the present were ignored by getting akid. He is deluded. If the gunners can’t even get the europa place,he should quit before he is fired.

He is a very disappointing manager and I don’t have any apology for saying that. This a typical case of Rome burns while the king sleeps.
