Theo backs AOC to excel at Arsenal

|

Following on from a superb game, which I had the pleasure of attending on Saturday morning, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been receiving praises from everyone as of late, the latest of which has been Theo Walcott, who recently said on the 18-year-old:

‘He’s very direct, he likes to get at players and that’s what any Arsenal fan or player likes to see.

‘He has plenty of confidence and he is young and he is a player that no one else in the Premier League has faced before so he is totally new to the game.’

Saturday afternoon was the first time I’ve seen AOC playing live for Arsenal, and later that night I have to admit I must of watched Match of The Day around three times just to see if I missed anything from ‘The Ox’. Having watched him live, I have to say that his performance was simply brilliant. The young winger constantly fought for the ball, ran at and past defenders several times and was full of energy. For me it was a breath of fresh air that Arsenal have so badly missed this season.

It may just be a coincidence, but in a game that AOC played well in he appears to have brought out the best in team-mate Theo Walcott. We also looked a lot more threatening outfit going forward, this could simply be down to the fact it was against a struggling Blackburn side that couldn’t defend for toffee, but in any case we looked exactly like the Arsenal of old, which was pleasing to see.

I would be happy to see both Walcott and Chamberlain together in the same team week in week out if they continue to play at the same rate they did on Saturday.

Who knows how the 7-1 victory over Blackburn will affect the rest of our season. The only thing I worry about is loading a heap of pressure onto Chamberlain’s shoulders, as we’ve seen so often before whereby a young player is given so much pressure by the media to perform things just go wrong and their attitude soon changes.
